Herman Cain Blasts Media For Sexual Harassment Questions After Debate With Gingrich

video

On CNN’s Newsroom, correspondent Shannon Travis reported that following a debate with Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain refused to answer questions relating to his sexual harassment scandal and angrily scolded journalists about ethics, cutting off Washington Post reporter Phil Rucker mid-question. “Mr. Cain, the attorney for one of the women who filed a sexual harassment complaint about you…” he began. “Don’t even go there!” Cain interrupted.

“Can I ask my question?” Rucker asked.

“No!” retorted Cain. “Where’s my chief of staff? Please send him the journalistic code of ethics.”

Anchor Don Lemon was astonished by Cain’s refusal to answer questions relating to the scandal.

“You’d think that someone who got to this position would understand how the media works, does Herman Cain really think that he’s going to get reporters to stop asking questions because he simply says so?” Lemon exclaimed. “It doesn’t work that way!”

Watch Cain’s rebuke of reporters questioning him about his sexual harassment accusations and Lemon’s reaction below via CNN:

I’m an independent Tea Party member and I’m afraid this is going to turn into another Edwards type thing. I think the media was right, he just wanted to sell his book.  You either run for president or you go on a book tour.

Hmm I missed that debate I wonder who won?

I’m a Libertarian but I would like to see Gingrich debate Obama. But it will probably never happen with the love affair the Repupics are starting to have with Cain. He is giving the press hell and they love that! But anyways Mitt Romney has already been bought and paid for by the GOP so it looks like we either get more of the same or The Repubics version of it…. Someday maybe people will have enough, and start supporting the Libertarian Party. The party is to small right now to even make a dent in the political scene.  Also. News Flash. “Ron Paul” is not a Libertarian.. LOL

Hey Don, don’t choke on your own self-aggrandizement.

I get my talking points from the same place you do, but as a true patriot I’m not a follower of any political organization, but follow my own internal guidance.

  • Anonymous

Of course “it works that way”. Absent any further details of what went on, Herman Cain knows he can simply wait out the media’s limited attention span who will tire of the impasse and move on something more substantive, such as Kim Karsdashian or whether Justin Bieber is a daddy or not.The fawning press is really only interested in the horserace aspect of this anyway, and not really at all interested in how the candidates got to where they are or why.

  • Norbit

“Still, just keep clicking you’re heels and perhaps, you’ll open you’re eyes and they’ll all go away…”JJ, are you alluding to the Democrat’s heretofore nearly unanimous support amongst black voters; or the Democrats impending loss of influence and control over national policy?

The repukes are deliberately throwing this election because they know they ruined the economy last time around, and their “more of the same Piss On You Economics and Tax Cuts for the already super rich who are already sitting on TRILLIONS shit that got us into this mess” is NOT going to work…

  • Norbit

Well, that response does sound like it would be coming from an actual Tea Party independent, so I’ll stand corrected on my earlier assumption, and answer your original post in this way:

Selling books may have been a consideration early on in the campaign, but the unexpected level of support Mr.Cain has received in recent weeks has propmpted a re-focus and re-direction in that thinking.

  • Anonymous

Herman Cain is too stupid to understand that he has every right not to comment but it is a no-win to pick a fight with those who buy ink by the barrel.

    He will rue this day.

    Rue it, I say.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Oh Nobits, what we DO without your clever word play – and how do you keep it up with that big ol’ lawn to keep hippies an’ libruls off of all the time?

Tell you what Nobits: name an honest GOP pol currently on the Weird Bunch, and let us run that name up the flagpole and see who salutes – fair? Every single one – well, I’m not that sure about RoPaul on this one, but give us a chance – has been caught dead to rights in a big whopper, and in the cases of serial whopper makers like Newt and Mitt, theirs have taken on Top 40 status. So, go ahead and name one and see how long it takes before this group is able to set your little bitty pea-pickin’ cheap shot on its butt.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Cain is amusingly stupid.  He thinks he’s in some kind of special position to tell people what questions they can and cannot ask. He doesn’t know what is appropriate. It’s easy to understand how a guy like that ends up as a serial sexual harasser.

What you’re saying is that if anyone in media says something you don’t agree with, they should be banned from the MSM. I think we all know the name of the political system that does that.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Wingers don’t look for stories in facts, they look for them in memes. They need a “scandal”, and since no one in the Obama administration has committed suicide or died under mysterious circumstances, and they can’t very well pin Vince Foster on Obama since they already pinned it on one or the other of the Clintons, and since they already knew how stinky Solyandra is SINCE BUSH WAS THE ONE WHO STARTED IT, then Solyandra it is.

That Darryl Issa is some corrupt piece of work.

  • Rex the Wonder God

And you’re just the Nob to do it, Nobits.

Newt would be just lovely for the Dems: remember, Nob, he HAD to leave Congress, due to that little ethics problem and the $400,000 smackers he took when he shouldna oughtta. Plus his little habit of dumping wives on their sickbeds. PLEASE nominate Newt, GOP.

  • Rex the Wonder God

No chance BB; politics is Hollywood for ugly people, and there are thousands of “hard news” reporters who still want a piece of this story. Witness now, the story is Herb not answering reporters’ questions. Oh man, are the media types ever gonna make him pay for this.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Yup, I just bet tens of millions of women turned in tonight all goo-goo eyed over these two examples of ultimate male pulchritude, like Fabio going up against Ahnold, head to head. Women have absolutely no problem with fat old pols thinking their God’s gift to the entire female contingent of humanity, no problem with guys fooling around behind their wives’ backs, no problem at all.

Also, billing it as Lincoln-Douglas II, that was SO not hubris right there.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Dang, I thought maybe that was Nobits’ home site.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Only at GOP debates, and only on days that end with a “Y”.

  • Norbit

    I’m not their priest, Rex.

In fact, if any of them can competently govern, and improve the lives and quality-of-life for a majority of Americans, I could care less what their personal or sexual peccadilloes are.

The big problem is a media that creates and maniplulates news narratives, instead of reporting them..

If Herman Cain committed an illegal act or some blatantly inappropriate behavior, that would be relevant to know.
However, this concerted media smear through innuendo and speculation – which we see all too often, particularly against conservatives – along with their politically-influenced selection of which stories they focus their airtime and “judgement” on is detestable.

As for president, Gingrich is an intelligent, articulate, and well-reasoned person, and he’s shown leadership skills - under vilification pressure by the very media I just alluded to - in the House.

I think he would be an exceptional President.

  • Norbit

    …see response below.

  • Norbit

    LOL

Let’s replace the name Obama with Bush, and see how much of a non-story it would be!
    Democratic hypocrisy, once again.

And don’t waste your type trying to convince anyone that the Dems and THEIR MEDIA wouldn’t be in a feeding frenzy if it was Bush!

Obama also changed the default payments – as you probably know, but omit in your reply – for the first time ever, to place investors/Obama contributors first, before taxpayers.

Nothing too special here, just your standard, Democratic corruption – from the Barry Administration, who’ll LIE about anything.

  • Norbit

“According to reports” should more accurately be stated as, “According to unsubstantiated, politically-motivated, orchestrated smear pieces by the Democrat-supporting mainstream media.

Now doesn’t that have more truth in it than a 12-year old incident where someone may or may not have been offended.

  • Norbit

A lot of noise from someone who didn’t watch it!

  • Anonymous

    “Does Herman Cain really think….?”

I don’t think that the questions that have been asked were ‘unfair’, I think that they’re absolutely targeted about not a whole lot of anything and Cain is done with the foolishness.

Is he my candidate?  I don’t have a candidate.  Do I get his point?  He’s testy but is leaving out the meat as to why.

If this were me, I’d say something similar but I would add ‘if you have something real to ask me, instead of the same vague smarmy thing, over and over, I’ll be happy to address it”.

I’m usually one of those, where there is smoke, there is fire, people.  But I also know that in politics, when  you have the MSM and a Republican candidate that the media wants to get rid of, they’ll hound them, creating the idea of inpropriety, whether there is anything there or not.  Something that they will never do with a Dem candidate.

They do NOT need a journalistic code of ethics, although they could use one.  I have no hope for that whatsoever.  Journalism died a long time ago.  What they need to do is use their actual journalistic tools, the skills that they were trained to have, and actually GO AFTER THE STORY.  Go find those women and get the dirt, if there is any.  Use some shoe leather and do the job.

Instead, it’s ‘Mr Cain…Mr Cain…Mr Cain…” and the sheep go ‘ooooh’.  It’s worked 1000 times before, and they’re shocked that this guy goes ‘uh no’….?

THAT is what is hilarious to me.

And the democratic apologists go ‘Horrors!’ (vapours) how could he not answer my moronic echolaliac question, the same one that has been asked for a week and answered?  Uh, easy.

And the irony, have they ever done anything like that to a truly loved Dem?  Unless the guy was so far under the water that he was obvious shark chum?  Mr X why do you have money in your freezer?  Mr X what did you know about Solyndra and when did you know it?  Mr X, who authorized Fast and Furious?

Interviews that don’t happen in real life.

As a woman, I’m not thrilled with any hint of impropriety with women.  There are also lot of women who are overly sensitive “He looked at me too long” and there are also a lot of men who just dog them.  It’s entirely possible that Cain said some stupid ass stuff at some point and got his butt in a sling. It’s also possible that someone either made it up or was just a PITA and they wanted her gone, so they paid her to get gone.

No way to know the real story, because no one is going after it…because that is not what the goal is.  The goal is to take the guy down if they can.  Bonus points if he’s high in the polls. If he wasn’t high in the polls they wouldn’t bother.  What they are not doing is actual journalism.

The long way of saying, they indeed aren’t doing their job and it doesn’t bother them not to do it.  There is a lot more to it than repeating the same question over and over.  You’d think that they know that, considering that they’re journalists in a city where the Washington Post scooped Watergate.  I’ve been embarrassed for them for years for this very reason.

I want those women who are blathering about it in the corner to cough it up or move on.  Really.  Cough up the information, it’s your story.  If you were serious enough about it to accuse a man of something, it shoudl stand on it’s own merits.  I’m highly suspicious when there is no substance forthcoming.

  • Anonymous

Good for Herman; the questions have been asked and answered.  The woman, who the media is protecting (imagine, if this same woman had made these claims against Obama  – the idiots asking these questions would have identified her and slandered her…and yes, Don Lemon would be leading that charge) was given carte blanche to break the agreement and speak out and she chose not to.  She cannot continue to accuse and remain hidden – it doesn’t work that way.
The medidiots like Don and the character from ABC want to slander Cain – Cain is right to put them in their place.
They have played for one side far too long and the public knows what the likes of DOn are doing…activism is not journalism, so DOn needs to stop it.

    You go Herman,

It may interest you, that some Indian Tribes that once inhabited central Wisconsin, (Oneida, Menominee, Winnebago, etc.) called the Red-Tailed Hawk… “Kaeh Kaeh.”  Such resembles the call of the Red-Tail, hence, the name.  (Trivia: “Winnebago,” means “stinking water,” as that Wisconsin Lake gets smelly in the summer)

As for your politics, or, rather your intellect, you seem quite capable of repeating what you hear, or want to hear.  However, I suspect you have difficulty assimilating new ideas that cause you dissonance.  Meaning, your orthodoxy is feigned as you really don’t know what you are talking about…

    JR48,

Quote “A Journalistic code of ethics.”  Respectfully, I was just about to suggest such to my comrade in arms: “PABLO.”  However, I started reading your comment and…

I’ve been talking about and scribbling in my journal that, perhaps, a governing body could be created that oversees the Journalistic Profession?

(Note: to the “Nattering Nabobs,” please cogitate on the suggestion before commenting.  I know the proposition is problematic, not impossible)

Anyway, as for you JR48, and PABLO, I have thought about the particulars and I believe such is “needed” and doable!  The Legal profession polices itself, we couldn’t have THAT, could we?  LOL

Perhaps a formal journalistic license could be implemented?  Or, a list periodically published showing transgressors?  (I think J.S. Mill would like that idea.)  However, foremost is to establish the credibility of the “Governing Body.”  With that in mind, even periodicals could/would post the quality of their Journalists upon publication.  Web-sites could be established and so on…

    Just an thought?

The fact that Cain could start the week misstating China’s nuclear capabilities, then proceed to get caught lying about his recollections of two sexual harassment claims, and end the week facing new allegations — and not pay any price for it at the polls — is testament to the stupidity of today’s Republican base. No demonstration of idiocy, dishonesty or failure penetrates their brains. And Cain knows that, which is why he’s simply forging ahead and pretending that the past week didn’t happen.

  • Anonymous

Exactly, and still the media is protecting her.  If the situation were reversed and she had made these claims against Obama, Politico would have plastered her name in big bold letters.  But, instead they are protecting her….why is that????

Whyis politico refusing to name this woman?  She can come out publicly or the story goes away.  Indeed, the story should never have been brought up in the first place.  Politico was just working for Team Obama in attempting to slander Cain; instead they are slandering themselves.

Foxes watching the henhouse. There is a Code of Ethics: http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp They’re perfectly happy to ignore it, as long as it suits their purpose to do so. Cain was talking of China’s Nuclear Carrier they are building.  You just caught the out of context comment of Cain about China.  30 seconds earlier in that conversation Cain was clearly talking of China’s new NUCLEAR AIR CRAFT CARRIER they are building.

  • Anonymous

Exactly, and the baggers had no problem crucifying Weiner before the the woman’s name was publicly revealed.

  • Lengk

    So what do we have?

2 WHITE REGISTERED DEMOCRAT WOMEN make up harassment stories about a conservative black man 13 years ago.

Now 13 years later they won’t publicly acknowledge anything about their “cases”, choosing to speak through attorneys, declaring the charges they made 13 years ago were legitimate.

Well, since they got $35,000 to $45,000 each for their false accusation back then; does anyone really think these two WHITE WOMEN are now going to say anything different?

  • Anonymous

Get your stories from someplace else than msnbc….the reason that story didn’t go anywhere is because it was a made up lie by the network who clearly took Cain’s comment out of contexxt in order to attempt another slander.  The public is smarter than the mediidiots, Cain is not stupid, the media is.

  • Anonymous

Thank you, Tina. You’re Exhibit A.

Cain: So yes, they’re a military threat. They’ve indicated that they’re trying to develop a nuclear (aircraft carrier) capability;.. they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.”
Sorry guy. Cain left the aircraft carrier out of that line.  Of course since Obama thinks America has 57 states, that a navy corpsman is a navy corpse man, etc.etc.etc.  give it up.

  • Norbit

Maybe Cain should follow the same career path as that other black politician, turned TV host.
The one lauded and revered in Democratic and “mainstream media” circles as a representattive spokesperson for the (liberal) black communities.

The only problem with that is Cain would have to orchestrate a murder/firebombing in Harlem, a deadly race riot in Crown Heights; and a race-baiting scam in Westchester County, from where his namesake would be derived!

Oh, and that hour he gets would have to be on MSNBC!

  • Anonymous

Nice spin, but I’ve seen the full interview and it’s pretty obvious that Mr. Ubeki-beki-beki-stan-stan was in over his head.

  • Rio

Guest, the anonymous women did not file sexual harassment charges, they filed complaints and were paid off by the company, all was done without any input from Herman Cain.  Therefore, he was denied the right to confront their complaints.

If these matters were serious enough to trigger sexual harassment charges, they should have filed charges, but they did not, they took the money and scooted.  We don’t know if Title VII applies, we don’t know exactly what the complaints were, but we do know Cain was not given the opportunity to dispute their claims.

They have remained anonymous with a confidentiality clause that allowed them to keep the information sealed, not having the worry that any of it would surface as they sought other employment.  Obviously, the agreement did not work well for Herman Cain and, the attorney representing the one woman said Cain may not have even been aware of his clients complaint.

That woman wanted the agreement unsealed, she got her wish, was going to talk, changed her mind and still wishes to remain anonymous, doesn’t want to be another Anita Hill, who care is Cain is another Thomas, it all works for her.  This is the woman that didn’t like working for that company anyway and she went back to happily work for the government.  Until the whole story is out, I call BS on the whole thing.

CAIN: “Maybe I misspoke,” he said. “What I meant was China does not have the size of the nuclear capability that we have. They do have a nuclear capability. I was talking about their total nuclear capability.”

If Cain expects to be understood perhaps he should stop misspeaking. Just a thought.

  • Anonymous

Politico reported that there were allegations of sexual harassment lodged against Herman Cain during his tenure in the 1990s and that it resulted in a settlement. The Cain campaign first denied it, then three interviews later admitted that it was true. Certainly doesn’t sound like Politico was reckless with the truth.

Why does Cain hate capitalism so much? His attempt to intervene in the marketplace through the imposition of a code of ethics typical for someone in the ORP Movement (Occupy Republican Party). Happy to benefit from the market in one regard yet willing to use regulation that limits aggregate freedom the next. To make things worse, this ORP movement is showing flashes that it might turn violent… The participants demonstrating a history of aggression toward women and the vulnerable. News flash :
Hermain Cain favorably down 9% this past week…..

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/06/us-usa-campaign-cain-idUSTRE7A04CW20111106

(Reuters) – Allegations that Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain
sexually harassed women in the 1990s have begun to damage his bid for the White
    House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The poll showed the percentage of Republicans who view Cain favorably dropped
9 percentage points, to 57 percent from 66 percent a week ago.

Among all registered voters, Cain’s favorability declined 5 percentage
points, to 32 percent from 37 percent.

The survey represents the first evidence that sexual harassment claims dating
from Cain’s time as head of the National Restaurant Association have taken a
    toll on his presidential campaign.

A majority of respondents, 53 percent, believe sexual harassment allegations
against Cain are true despite his denials. Republicans were less likely to
believe they are true, with 39 percent thinking they are accurate.

To Rio:  Just because someone doesn’t file charges when a crime is committed doesn’t make it less of a crime.  Anyone can understand that, surely?  This is especially common in — surprise! — sexual assaults, as you probably know.  Shame or the belief that no one will believe that they were assaulted prevents many people from filing charges in cases of sexual assault, child abuse, and other abuse cases.  It’s shamefully common, in fact, for victims to believe that no one will help or believe them; in fact, some women just pick up and move to a new job or city, while others file a complaint with the company but not the police, but they tend to try to get away from the situation ASAP; they’re afraid that it will happen again … or that people will call their story “BS.” .Kind of like what’s happening here, frankly, and kind of what like usually happens when these cases get brought up in the media.

  • Guest

It’s called the Eleventh Commandment for a reason, you know?

  • Guest

Asking a candidate if they committed a crime when there have been multiple allegations is an attack?  It’s their job to ask for the truth, and it’s his job to just clear his freaking name already if he’s innocent, or to designate a lawyer to deal with those questions if he needs one.

Yes, of course and very nice, I guess that not being so sympathetic to the course the movement has taken I just missed that.  It does cause me to question then given that there have been 1000′s of arrests associated with this movement as well as 100′s of documented acts of violence.  How it is that you think that the so called right wing media is being unfair?

Well, although I agree with much of the sentiment of the movement, I am certainly not a fan of the Wall Street greed we have witnessed during the last few years, I am not sure that the movement offers any constructive solutions to the problems they protest. In fact it would seem to me that because this movement is so ill defined and has no agenda other than to protest it has opened itself up to the infiltration of elements that it may or may not consider to be undesirable.  It can hardly be denied that new groups are joining this movement bringing with them more defined agendas and clarity in their objectives, so of which many members of the movement seem to disagree with.  Although these groups may not be inline with the original intent of the movement, there does exist a danger that the movement will be hijacked by these groups.  At that point the movement becomes something else, regardless of what you and others think it stands for or what it is supposed to stand for it will be what it has become, nothing less.  The movement is showing more and more signs of violence and forcible demonstrations in which property is damaged or destroyed, or people are assaulted or detained against their will.  The protest in DC this last week is a good example, elderly women were assaulted simply for attending a conference with their husbands, protesters tried to block streets not allowing frightened attendees to leave the event…  a couple of protesters ended up getting run over by a car but no charges were filed against the car’s driver as the police did not find the driver to be at fault. Which you know what?, if you surround gramps and granny’s car yelling and screaming scaring the crap out of them and blocking their exit then gramps freaks out and runs you over, I would say that you are more at fault than he is

And no, not every democrat owns this movement, but one in particular does….  this is a direct outgrowth of the president’s rhetoric, never have we had a president in my memory anyway delve into class warfare as has this president, it is counter productive for the president to do so as his office is suppose to preside over and maintain order in the republic, he has instead incited this movement and should this thing go bad he will not be able to wash his hands of it.

@ Fedup- I love your reasoned approach and agree with most of that first paragraph.  The last one I find objectionable.  Has Obama used “tough” speech at times?  Sure… politics is war by other means after all and no one succeeds without a bit of iron deposited throughout.  In sum, he is a calm and dispassionate.  I see class war differently than you… i.e. the massive transfer of wealth that occurred as consequence of unregulated financial products… not a return to more balanced tax rates.  The idea that Obama owns OWS because he has not opposed it is silly… as chief executive he should refrain from criticism of legal activity (protest), allow local authorities to address illegality and work to understand and address the concerns of citizens.  Cheers!

  • Rio

Guest, where are you getting “sexual assault?”  From the reporting I’ve seen, the accusations are “harassment” and not all accusations have been of a sexual nature.

“Anyone can understand…”  I sure can, because I have personally experienced sexual harassment on three jobs.  Two incidents while employed as a secretary for, at the time, was the second largest construction firm in the country.  Our project supervisor loved to have conversations with his girlfriend about their sexcapades on speaker.  The third time he did it I called the General Manager of the project and let him hear it, he visited the site the  next day and fired him.  Then I had the poor little engineer that shared  my office that would occaisionally suggest that we could really have a good time, I ignored him and when he left I went over his expense account with a fine tooth comb and his last pay check was pretty light.  When working as a corporate secretary, the owner of the firm hinted a couple of times to another single co-worker and me that it would be nice if we would date his clients.  We politely told him we weren’t interested, he quit bringing it up and we still got our raises, bonuses and advanced.  Never did I ever experience guilt or shame, just considered them to be the ignorant clods that they were and not once did I ever experience fear.  A third boss cruised by my house, only worked a short period of time for him, just thought he was a pathetic case.  In two cases I was a single parent that could not afford to lose  my job, but in all cases I dealt with it in a way where in the long run, I won.

A lot has been reported about the second woman, from the reporting I don’t get that she was a weak victim.

You and I don’t see things so differently, we just see different solutions to the countries problems.  The biggest reason for the historical success of the US economy has been the strong middle class that has existed in this country and was built only after the industrial revolution.  Without a strong middle class we will become a third world type country which will look more like any number of South American countries than the country that we live in. I hate what has happened in this country over the course of the last decade, there are several factors at play that nobody is talking about and the answers are not so simple as to blame the activities happening on Wall Street or the actions of some major corporations.  Even if we were to somehow legislate the re-patriotation of all the corporate dollars being held overseas this would do little to address the underlying problems we face as a nation.  Our economy is in trouble, not simply because of corporate greed. Please don’t read my words as some sort of defense of Corporate America or Wall Street as it is not.  I am offended at large corporations making billions in profits while not paying a dime in taxes, I am offended at bankers paying themselves hundreds of millions in bonuses while leading their banks to failure then wiping out their shareholders and retirement accounts across the country as they buy their new yachts…  I think that you would find that these sentiments are very common on both the right and the left.  When I think about the issues we face as a country to restore our economy I honestly feel that we have to consider how large of a role that the government is to play in not only the economy but also in our lives via social programs.  This is a dividing point between conservatives and progressives, progressives feel that it is the role of the government to address problems that they can have influence on and to provide financial security for those who need it.  I like the idea but am more pragmatic in my view.  The fact is that last year spending at all levels of government Federal, State, Local, less inter-governmental transfers was $6.017 trillion representing approximately 40% of our GDP. How much can the government control without contracting the economy?  In the next several years SSI and other entitlements alone with grow the governments share of GDP another 5% with no other new programs or additional spending.  Federal revenues don’t even cover the “Big 4″ last year Social Security and pensions, Medicare and Healthcare, Welfare, and Defense combined for over $3 trillion of the federal budget, just those four represent a $500+billion deficit before we even talk about the rest of the government.

Where I disagree with the progressive movement is that I don’t think that the government can continue to consume more and more of our GDP and allow us to have a strong economy that will support the ability of our citizens to work and grow in the private sector.  I honestly do not believe that the government is capable of doing things as efficiently as is the private sector and I think that even our government points to it’s own waste and lack of accountability often.  Does this mean that I hate government and believe that  it provides nothing of value to our society?, of course not! Our government provides us with many things that we often take for granted that make great contributions to the quality of our lives, although I may think that the current regulatory environment in DC is hurting our economy I don’t minimize the fact that because of government regulation the food I eat is safe, I can rely on safe drugs from the pharmacy, drink safe water, drive safe vehicles on safe roads that are provided from my government, know that when I purchase a home it was built to safe and consistent standards…. the list is endless.. But, to come back to my point, the government can and in our modern democracy, at least IMO, try and do to much which restricts not only our economy but also our individual freedoms.

For the life of me I can’t understand why we don’t get rid of the current tax codes.  Both sides are claiming how unfair it is….  why won’t the government consider a simple flat tax that will bring in the revenues it needs to operate and allow for personal exemptions set at a level that it will avoid overly taxing the poor?

Greg, the only way that I can imagine that we can rebuild our economy is find ways to be competitive in the world markets, we are not going back to the days before free trade so we have to look for ways that we can become competitive.  To me that means that we find ways to help our entrepreneurs to be able to compete, regulation and taxes are the biggest factors effecting business that our government can control the impact of.  Does this mean that I want dirty air or drinking water? No, of course not, but the government must evaluate it’s impact in the economy and become a partner in building a successful environment, both in our tax codes and in it’s regulatory governance. Shift the tax burden away from corporations and more to income but do so fairly, and get rid of all loopholes and subsidies.

Anyway, there is so much that has happened during the last ten years we have added layers and layers to our government in our reaction to the changing world, all the Homeland security and TSA, two wars, none of which is being paid for. I do not think that any one individual or party is to blame, I do however think that our government is definitely to blame, it is their responsibility to do what is right for the country.  If they allow themselves to be bought out by corporate interests, well then they are corrupt and don’t deserve the office they hold, this does not excuse the corporate interest be they the Koch brothers or be they large unions, but the office holder has sworn an oath and he or she has betrayed those folks back home that they represent, so no, I do not think that protesting Wall Street is the answer, I would be all about protesting Congress and the White House.

It’s been a week. Does anyone even know what it is Herman Cain is accused of? And no, “sexual harassment” is not a sufficient answer. That could mean anything. What specifically did any of these women claim he did or said to them?

Oh, that’s right. None of you have a f’ing clue because NO ONE has come forward. Not a single detail has emerged from a verifiable witness. There’s no story there. The media thought they could torpedo his campaign with innuendo and lies and instead they made him a teflon candidate. Now when they try to bring up any charges of wrongdoing against him, it’ll be held up against this smear job and immediately dismissed as more media lies.

But please, keep f’ing that chicken, American left. Cain’s “only” raised $1.6 million since this non-story broke a week ago. Maybe if you insinuate more BS about him, he can raise a cool $10 million in November which would all but eliminate the one advantage Romney still has over him.

  • Adam_ME

Oh, no. Newt took 400 grand. How will he ever live that down when his opponent, the incumbent President, has already blown $4 trillion of taxpayer money with nothing to show for it?

  • Anonymous

Can someone help me out. I can’t seem to find the Mediaite story on the Jesse Jackson sexual harassment scandal. I’m sure it’s here somewhere. Maybe I’m not typing in the right keywords. If someone could post a link to the story I’d be very grateful.

No, there was the distinct possibility that Weiner tweeted someone else’s wiener.

  • Adam_ME

Giving $535 million to a green energy company that everyone warned was a bad investment(including the previous administration) is a non-story? Giving the investors(including George Kaiser, an Obama bundler) preferential treatment over the taxpayers when the company went into bankruptcy is a non-story? Refusing to comply with FOIA demands or a subpeona from Congress demanding answers to what really happened is a non-story?

Funny, when Enron and Madoff pulled these kinds of shenanigans, Congress, the press, and the American people all got upset and some folks ended up in prison. And those two cases didn’t affect every taxpaying individual in this country, unlike Solyndra(and the other green energy money pits we’re finding out about every week). Yet this is a non-story?

I don’t know how many people are aware of the fact that under the judicial system in this country, the burden of proof of alleged wrong-doing IS ON THE ACCUSER.  Unless and until the “victims” of Mr. Cain are willing to come forward, this remains nothing more than a typical Leftist smear campaign.

About 15 years ago, BBC did a historical series on the NAZIs.  One fascinating bit of film was from Poland, shortly after the NAZIs took over.  Jews were lined up to be identified as criminals.  Their accusers walked past wearing masks so their identity was not revealed to the accused.  This was done to keep the Jews from exacting “retribution”.

    Is Mr. Cain Jewish?

If not, where are are his accusers?

What are you talking about, accusers?
The woman accused Herman Cain 13 years ago and won a settlement and since then have kept quiet.
The media found out about it and if anything the ladies silence have been PROTECTING Mr Cain.
They did not come out of the woodwork, they were outed and they wanted nothing to do with it except not to have their names besmirched, which is what Cain has been doing, so they simply said they stand by their story.
It has been Cain who has been accusing them of lying about a case settled 13 years ago WHICH THEY DIDN’T BRING UP.

These are not Anita Hills, and this isn’t a she said, he said.

the media to keep their noses up his arse.   The Enquirer nailed John
Edwards…..another dirtbag whom the media protected.

    http://obamaverabaker.com/national-enquirer%e2%80%99s-obama-sex-scandal-claims-hotel-surveillance-proves-affair/

The Enquirer is also promising hotel surveillance footage that
could prove that Obama and Baker entered and left the hotel at the same time.
“Investigators are attempting to obtain a tape from the hotel (that) shows Vera
and Barack together… If the tape surfaces, it will explode the scandal.”
TheEnquirer does not specify the dates of the surveillance footage,
which could mean they are merely touting a 6-year-old affair the Obamas and
everyone around them have moved beyond it, but they could also be breaking
something new. Or they are totally wrong or taking some bit of information
completely out of context, which would hardly be shocking.

It is not innuendo and speculation that Herman Cain was accused and the NRA paid a settlement to at least one woman. It’s a fact.

You may claim the innuendo is that he must be guilty but IMO it’s his own lies and lack of straight forwardness that makes the press and the public wonder.  His policy statements were enough for me to scratch him off my list of realistic candidates, but his handling of this is just more reason.

  • CosmosDan

@059c0e239654b4a25ddfa100b648015f:disqus How do you know Cain didn’t have any input into what happened?

Your logic is flawed. The fact that this woman, or is it women, took a severance package rather  than file charges is no indication of anything.

  • CosmosDan

It will be media hell for any woman desiring a normal life, to come out and talk about this in public. I’m guessing Cain had a chance to face his accusers when the incidents happened. Could he have said, “I did nothing wrong so we won’t be paying them a dime” Instead they were paid a years severance.

Maybe it’s a scam, and maybe he’s just freakin guilty. From the way he’s choosing to handle it now, my guess is the latter.

  • Pablo

No, he couldn’t have said that. HR departments let the lawyers handle these things, not the target of them. Further, one of them complained after he had left, so he wasn’t even there to influence the decision.

Sure sign of guilt, attack the messenger, don’t deny or explain the message.

  • Texan

uh, those “legal documents” you speak of are nothing but hearsay. I could just as easy file a claim against you.

  • Anonymous

    I agree, morrisminor.

I just realized he was projecting  when he said: “Where’s my chief of staff? Please send him the journalistic code of ethics.”  But like Don Lemon said, it is not the reporter who needed the ethics guidelines but Cain.  His narcissistic personality wouldn’t allow him to dare admit his guilt, so he projected his guilt on someone else.

He does not need to be in the Oval office.

  • Anonymous

Legal documents are the exact opposite of hearsay. And three of them? One maybe, two doubtful, three, he’s guilty

  • Anonymous

The confidentiality agreement was just released just Friday.  Do you really think that much would be done over the weekend.  The confidentiality agreement also protected Cain, not just the accuser.  When the lady does speak out, Cain will have his opportunity to respond to her charges.

Every reference you used is from a tabloid, which I can read while checking out at a grocery store.  The National Enquirer got lucky once because they got a tip from someone on Edwards.  The National Enquirer is not know as exactly  and I’m not surprised there are people like you that believe what you read in them.being an “investigative newspaper”. Which might explain you quote,  ”Obama accused of an affair with Vera Baker.  It’s time to recirculate this story” only provides further evidence even you believe it’s a “story” and not a truthful statement.

You mean Cain was so dense and cocky that he never imagined that these cases might surface later? Sorry but when I think of racists, right wing bigots from Texas pop into mind for some reason.

    BFD,

Sincerely, for a brief moment, a hint of humanity passed between us, with your humor.

Sadly, the chasm between Right and Left is so deep and wide and such is more than apparent here, in cyberspace. When I was a kid, the difference between the Right and Left seemed to be that the Democrats believed that America could/should use some of our prosperity on benevolent projects and activities.

Conversely, the Republicans seemed disinclined to exhibit such largesse? That was NOT an insurmountable difference that could make or break America.

As I said above, the differences now are so pronounced, dare I say, even worse than the 60s?

    Sincerely, Purveyor

  • Thinker

He accused Perry last, democrats were after racists, but before liberals! Get the blames right on the right day! He will give you someone new to throw “baseless” allegations towards!!!

  • Thinker

    ….tomorrow, stay tuned Hermanation!

  • Thinker

Which is more important to Hermanation!? I think it’s pretty clear most of you want to “stick it to the media and liberals more than putting the most qualifies man in the white house! Just an observation based on hundreds of blogs. No reasons given for policies he would make a difference with, just a lot of “baseless” and paranoid accusations thrown at the media, liberals, racists, the left, and even the GOP! …..and this is the part a Hermanite will call me a liberal racist, but this time make it different….for once give a few reasons this man should even be considered electable! Think about it!!!

Don’t forget Larry Sinclair says he gave Onbama a BJ and did crack and coke with him on a weekend tryst in 1999, while Obama was marred and in the Senate.

Larry Sinclair freely gave his name and MANY, MANY details including asking Obama to authorize the release of cell phone records that would either prove or disprove the allegations…

    Obama declined.

  • Anonymous

Larry Sinclair came forward to tell his story. And he offered details – lots of them.

And when he called a press conference in the Summer of 2008, he was jailed on a bogus arrest warrant signed by Beau Biden. The charges were later dropped.

Larry Sinclair was arrested a month before Obama chose Beau’s daddy, Joe, as his running mate.

Typical gay-Chicago pay-for-play for the VP bid on the democratic party ticket, no?

All of it, IS IN THE PUBLIC RECORD.  But, let me guess…this doesn’t matter because Obama isn’t a republican….

    (Pssst…but he is a neocon)

Hmmmm, I could care less who replaces the liar in thief. You can apply that to about 30% of the electorate. You know, the ones that ACTUALLY vote, they have had it with the thief. Bailouts to his buddies, bailouts to his union buddies, bailouts to his bank buddies, bailouts to his energy buddies, BAILOUTS or maybe called BRIBES and reciprocal money laundering returns in campaign contributions, by the way, just do not comment to me anymore. You sir are an IDIOT.

Call yourself thinker, is that like something special or something? I call myself my name, morons that reply to me are just that, MORONS. What, do you actually think I give a rat’s arse about your opinion, or do you think others do? You are a FAKE, you are a LIAR, you are a GHOST, do you actually think ANYONE gives your opinion a seconds notice? You are an anonymous idiot. Sorry, giving you the time of day is like giving that ant I stepped on yesterday a moments notice.

    Politico is a democrat site!

    Dave,  Good Morning.

I was about to write you complimenting your above post. (The first one, regarding “verification”)  Concise and actually, rather a-political.  A good observation and certainly anyone with a pulse knows the “Media” needs philosophy courses on ethics?

THEN, I noticed “THINKER’s” response!  Quote: “Stick it to the media and Liberals?”  How could he got that so wrong?  The Conservative/Tea Party objective is to stick it to the LIBERAL’s first and foremost!  Of course, as a result the Media will be stuck too!  LOL  However, the order in which we “stick” is very important to the end result.

A Clint Eastwood Movie comes to mind, but I can’t quite recall which one?  Something about getting the greatest threat , first?…  ”Unforgiven,” that was it!

You mean Obama didn’t give hush money with confidentiality clauses to the insane freak Larry Sinclair?

There is a huge difference in rising above the lunatic right wing nuts who throw any baseless accusation they can think of to see what might stick (and none do but keep I suppose you freaks will keep on trying) and actually paying off three sexually harassed women who worked at the LOBBIEST organization where you were CEO.

  • Anonymous

Um. you know this is a right on right scandal don’t you? Probably from N-head ranch man, Perry, himself. I know that doesn’t fit your idiotic victim crybaby screeching about the so-called “liberal media” but it’s the way it is. Deal with it.

Ok…so, it was Polly…but, I do like the name Patsy Pissy Pants..do you think I could create a cartoon, and makes lots of moola on that? :)

  • http://welcomebacktopottersville.blogspot.com jurassicpork

How come only black reporters on CNN reported on this? Is it because white journalists are prohibited from even mentioning a black man’s lack of sexual mores and that that would be construed as racist? I see this when people write less than flattering articles about Israel. They all tend to be Jewish, as if that instantly gives them credibility and insight that no gentile could aspire to.

  • http://www.davidjkramer.co.cc// DavidKramer

Eh, I do not want to stick it to the leftist media, I want to DESTROY the leftist media.

I am sick and tired of their lies and manipulations, I just wish I had the resources to destroy them. I could do it easily, give them a honeypot and they would fall for it lock stock and two smoking barrels!. Loved that movie, if you have not seen it, give it a try, it is a classic.

Anyway, the leftists use people to destroy us conservatives, it is TIME and the PERFECT environment to implement their destruction. All it takes is a honeypot and they would go down. They do not care about the truth, just the implementation of personal destruction. They do not care about verification at all. They have thrown out the journalist ethics guidelines, be it because of the internet or for their very own reasons. I do not believe ANYTHING I see on the internet and therefore I believe absolutely nothing I see on TV, until I see verifiable video.

Now, I could provide all of that if only asked to destroy the current MSM, all it takes is a little seed money. If anyone wants to contact me on my plan or idea, just drop me a comment, I will tell you the plan, it is not even that frelling hard. It is NOT a con, it is letting the media be themselves, liars.
