In April, Fox News Dominated The Ratings As MSNBC Returned To Second Place In Prime

Whether there’s big news, or none at all, it seems the mighty warship that is Fox News sails on, and in April, Fox kept firm hold on first place in cable news. The network took first place–beating both CNN and MSNBC combined. Competitors will quickly point out that despite the overall dominance, Fox was off compared to a year ago, dropping more than 11 percent versus 2010 in terms of viewers 25-54. (The dip among total viewers was far more limited, just 3 percent).

CNN, even without the huge ratings lift it got in February and March from a succession of major international news stories, had the most growth of the three networks overall compared to 2010 (up 31 percent in primetime versus a year ago among viewers 25-54), but the dropoff in serious news hurt CNN harder than the other networks, sending it back to third place in primetime behind MSNBC for April (in terms of total viewers and viewers 25-54). MSNBC beat CNN by 36% in terms of viewers 25-54 and 48% among total viewers. CNN remains in second place in daytime and total day.

Several CNN shows saw growth in April, with John King, USA up 58 percent among viewers 25-54. Other shows with significant year-over-year gains included In the Arena (30 percent in the demo), Situation Room (44 percent in the demo), Anderson Cooper (35%) and Piers Morgan Tonight (20% compared to 2010, when Larry King held the timeslot).

At MSNBC, the network returned to second place with double-digit ratings growth in both total viewers and in the demo compared to 2010. Several shows made notable gains, including The Ed Show, which finished ahead of CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 for the month. Lawrence O’Donnell‘s Last Word, though, was down five percent among viewers 25-54 compared to 2010, when Keith Olbermann‘s Countdown was in the timeslot.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow had her best margin over CNN’s Piers Morgan since the show’s launch, with a 66% edge in total viewers and a 65 percent margin among viewers 25-54. While Morgan has yet to knock Maddow from her perch, PMT has improved CNN’s performance in the hour. Overall since the show’s launch, the program is way up compared to a year ago–up 61 percent in the demo.

“In April, Fox News Dominated The Ratings As MSNBC Returned To Second Place”

That’s ok, the left has become accustomed to fighting over scraps.

Once again, “Fair and Balanced” wins over the lies, distortions, misrepresentations, leftist propaganda and baseless slime attacks of the “Corrupt B-tards” of the lamestream socialist fake-news media.

    What a surprise.

    LEAN FORWARD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> :-}
    Never Changes, does it ???

To quote Seinfeld re: MSNBC: “You’re the number one loser.” “No one lost ahead of you.” Congrats!

It’s interesting that though May Sweeps begin until Thursday the 28th, Nielsen is releasing data for 3/28-4/24 and calling it “April”. Of course, if “May” starts the 28th and “April” ended on the 24th, what does that make the days in between? I guess it could simply be chalked-up to the difference between broadcast and cable, but you would think that if they are separate divisions, they’d use the same calendar. .

Nonetheless, it ordinarily wouldn’t matter, but I suspect CNN will probably benefit from the run-up to the wedding and the network’s propensity to attract casual viewers during events.

CNN employees are praying for more earthquakes. As a last resort everyone becomes religious.

The point is any idiot could tell that lately CNN and MSNBC were up and Fox was down but you teabloggers aren’t just any idiots.

“Fox was off compared to a year ago, dropping more than 11 percent versus 2010 in terms of viewers 25-54. (The dip among total viewers was far more limited, just 3 percent).”

Next time when I say shit listen to me, you’ll learn something.

So if Fox ratings are down, this affects us how?

Stop whining, you just can’t take the fact that for the past 7 plus years, Fox News has completely beat their competitors. Like Ricky Bobby said “If you aint first, you are last”. And you said “CNN and MSNBC were up”, doesn’t matter, they haven’t been able to beat Fox News in 7 years.

lol at teabaggers posting in an “April compared to last year” thread but they don’t want to acknowledge the results.

Sorry this isn’t good news for you guys but you can’t just pretend it’s not happening!

Oh my gosh! This is horrible!

    (Might as well humor him.)

  • Just4thefax

Fact: Until the others quit trying to spoon feed slop to the viewers they will always be in the rear end of the ratings.

^^er… my previous comment should’ve said “May Sweeps *don’t* begin until…”^^

With all of the other sites getting Disqus, I hope it’s still just a matter of time until it’s available here. Though, if anyone is keeping a tally, please put me down for keeping the comment counts visible on the front page, so that we don’t have to frustratingly randomly load to see if someone else has had something to say.

    The headline is confusing:

“In April, Fox News Dominated The Ratings As MSNBC Returned To Second Place”

At first it made me think that MSNBC had been in first place last month, then “returned” to where it was previously, second place.

That is exactly how it was meant to sound. But no matter how you
spin it, FOX is going to continue kicking ass in Ratings and Libs are
going to continue soiling their underwear!
The new LEAN FORWARD spots are horrendous and thats a compliment!
    Have you seen that mess?
Waiting for them to roll out Chunk, Dylan and Joe !
Should be just as much fun.

Article shows bias: FOX wins, yet all the verbiage is about CNN and MSNBC and the “battle” among the also-rans for second place.

    BIAS!
