James Comey Mocks Trump’s Twitter Attacks Against Him: ‘I’m Like a Breakup He Can’t Get Over’

Former FBI Director James Comey dismissed the tweets made by President Trump in recent days since launching his book tour.

After Comey’s first televised interview since being fired last year, Trump blasted Comey, calling him an “untruthful slime ball.”

Appearing on The Late Show, Comey didn’t seem to care about what the president had to say.

“He’s probably tweeted me 50 times, I’ve been gone for a year,” Comey responded. “I’m like a breakup he can’t get over.”

“Wow,” Stephen Colbert grinned. “He needs to move on, huh?”

Comey clarified that his reaction is “a shrug.”

“My first reaction to those kinds of tweets is a shrug, ‘Oh, there he goes again.’ But actually I caught myself and I said, ‘Wait a minute. If I’m shrugging, are the rest of the country shrugging? And does that mean we’ve become numb to this?’ It’s not okay for the President of the United States to say a private citizen should be in jail. It’s not normal. It’s not acceptable. It’s not okay. But it’s happened so much, there’s a danger we’re now numb to it, and the norm has been destroyed. And I feel that norm destroying in my own shrug. So we can’t allow that to happen. We have to talk about it and call it out. It’s not okay.”
