Julian Assange Storms Off ABC News Interview After Question From “Tabloid Schmuck”

Video

It seems Wikileaks founder Julian Assange does not like embarrassing information about himself to be publicly revealed. When ABC News reporter Jim Sciutto questioned Assange about the rape allegations in Sweden and his claim of undue influence on the female accusers, Assange pulled the plug on the interview and walked off. Apparently, when too much is exposed about “Mr. Transparency” Assange, he gets upset and in this case, called the offender a “tabloid schmuck.”

Specifically, Sciutto did perhaps get a bit too graphic, asking Assange about some of the claims of the alleged victims who claimed he was “forcibly spreading her longs” and “holding her down so she couldn’t move.” And, in Assange’s opinion, this was one too many smears to have leaked from Sciutto’s mouth and Assange had enough. Storming off certainly made a statement, but just imagine if Assange responded calmly, he potentially could have made the unnecessarily explicit question look foolish instead of himself.

That whole “expose everyone’s secrets” thing only works one way, eh Julian?

On, and note that the reporter was cringingly obsequious after Assange stalked away, following Assange and whining that he didn’t mean to insult. Egads, dude.

    Man up.

More infighting on the left! – Gotta’ Love It!!

2010 was only the first glorious battle!
Just look at the last few weeks: Barry’s folding like a cheap tent, GOP governors will gerrymand the country, and Olbermann is running cover for rapists!
The sun is shining in America again!

The progressive Left is in freefall…time to put the coup de grace in 2012……YOU BETCHA!

  • Cecelia

Well, these are legal charges, and Assange’s attorney has most certainly told him to avoid saying ANYTHING about the matter.

Considering Assange’s own words about transparency, perhaps walking off the set in a snit, makes him seem a less hypocritical figure than would sitting there and repeatedly refusing to answer any questions.

Anybody that flips off an ABC reporter is okay in my book.

This tool Assange, is going to be used as an excuse to regulate and control the internet. The Obama FCC and now the U.N. are making their moves to choke off the free and open exchange of ideas and information that put at risk the agendas they push in the shadows.

  • NORBIT

Hypocrisy on principles, walking off the set, antipathy toward America…You sure this thread isn’t about the “The View”?

  • http://www.libertarianism.com/ Jack Burns

Tabloid Schmuck.. LOL Yep he is, but thats what sells these days. Everyone wants to know all about your escapades. All the little dirty tid bits…The fact you caused an international stir releasing sensitive info to the world is old news that now holds no interest for the masses…. pathetic eh?

nope.. the progressive left is just remaking itself.. and your tea parties worked to pull of some victories in these midterms.. so will the progressive left.

And talking about the republican takeover in 2012,, that will be dependent on how they do stuff in next 1 and half years..

You are so right! Thats what people should be focusing on.The right to release that information Like it or not. Its all about freedom of information, So there is good and bad on what he did. Putting curbs on the vehicle used for the free flow of info should not be the solution. How and when of putting restraint on the individual should be the focus…

“progressive left” ? How tidy, you and your far left ultra liberal ilk have just spent yourselves into oblivion, from Greece, westward across the European continent and now coming to our shores, every single thing that you stand for has been tried and is now seen as utter failure.

Enjoy your time out in the wilderness for you will be there a good long time. Oh, and try to camp by a river as you’ll need water….

How about, “On the advice of counsel, I will not answer any questions related to the pending legal action.”

  • valkyrie101

“but just imagine if Assange responded calmly, he potentially could have made the unnecessarily explicit question look foolish instead of himself.”

That is exactly correct. Assange is not a media professional. He made the same mistake that numerous others, especially coaches, make, who end interviews or walk off shows in protest of perceived media hostility, have done. Assange was right, this was not journalism, not just questions, but hostility. Was it “tabloid stuff”? No, but not journalism, either. Assange knew that, so his instinct was to walk away.

But don’t you find this allegation of rape, kind of, shall we say, “convenient”?

I am not familiar how Swedish law works….tell us what you know…not what you suspect or what you think is “convenient.”

And NO, I am not a “Conspiracy Theorist” it is generally a waste of time and wrong!

That would’ve been a good way to answer the question, but to be honest, I haven’t followed the criminal case because it has no bearing on me, so the reporter’s questions were the first that I had heard of those particular allegations.

IOW: It was the “tabloid schmuck”, who introduced them to the conversation.

  • notsofast

What a hypocrite. He wants to expose everything someone says or does except when it comes to his sexual depravity.

So you’re saying women lie about rape all the time??? Are they “crying rape”??? I know we have the Duke Rape Scandal to prove it does happen, but it used to be the position of NOW that NO woman would ever “cry rape” because of the stigma that NO woman would want to go through. So in essence NOW’s old position was all woman who accuse a man of rape was telling the truth. Is that no longer the left’s position???

And where are you on the fact that Olbermann and Moore LIED about the alligations and downplayed them??? Say what you want about the convienence of the alligations but they should report them truthfully. They didn’t they lied (factual, provably lied) for political reasons… to make Assange and the alligations against him look less bad. All for nothing more than their own selfish politics… Sad.

  • david r

Next time Bill Maher tries to sell Europe as paradise, remember this clip. Sexual harassment is no big deal in Europe. Ask any woman who has tried to travel alone in Italy (the worst), or in France (almost as bad). “No” does not mean no over there.

  • tatboy

And where do you stand on Olbermann passing on the rape accusers names??? Is he helping Jagger shame them into dropping a rape case against someone he politically agrees with for no more than political reasons??? We all remember the Left’s about face of sexual harassment in the 90′s. Are you now doing an about face on rape as well???

  • TurboKitty

Just because I’m curious … what exactly was the topic of the interview supposed to be about? I’m sure Mr. Assange wouldn’t have consented to talking about his preferred sexual predilections, had he been informed from the start, that he was going to be questioned about them. His actions speak to that. Of course, then again … had he been informed from the beginning, he might have consented … sensationalism at its best and/or more weapons of mass distraction …

  • tugbote

Exercising his “right to remain silent” is one thing, and also legitimate, but refusing to take it in the ass when he himself so puclicly and willingly asked for it is baseless and completely hypocritical.

Man up, dude. If you can’t take the heat, then don’t go anywhere NEAR the kitchen.

  • btimsah

So, according to the statists we’re supposed to know the inner workings of Assange’s legal case BUT NOT the inner workings of our own “Constitutional Republic”? What is wrong with you people? How did you get such a perverted mindset? Our government is supposed to represent us and protect our liberties. Not hide our liberties, steal our income and then obstruct justice in an effort to silence media. We’re witnessing the true nature of the world government we’ve built and we should all be alarmed. I can’t stand you big government statists. You think that individuals, not the Governments, are obligated to be transparent with no right to privacy.

WHAT IS WRONG YOU? Wake up!

They are smearing assange and the sheep are falling for it.

    Sad but true….

People don’t want the truth, they want to be ignorant. Just look at all the posts here, acting like Assange is a rapists.. it’s hilarious how stupid people are but also sad.. It’s a sad reflection of how pathetic AMerica has become, how dumb we’ve become.. and how no one has any foresight anymore.

You want the government to have unchecked power Dummy? Then get out of the fucking tea party movement, you aren’t a tea partier, you’re a neo-conservative pretending.

Libertarians should be supporting assange too, but god the US government has really worked you all over huh? Now Assage is a rapist eh? What ever happened to guilty until proven innocent? Or do you all never picture yourself in a situation where you’re being slandered with absolutely no proof but the word of one woman.. and the other woman was working for the CIA!

I want to say “wake up” but the trolls here are just going to reply to this with some crap like “OH BUT ASsaNGE SPREADS SECRETS”

He can, wikileaks is vigiliante journalism, if states don’t want their secrets taken, get better security and hire trustworthy people.

The fact that he’s being treated like this should really tell you the media is firmly in the governments hands.

The media is there to keep the important people above everyone else and to censor information that the important people want censored. The media looks up to these people and has created this strange relationship where they think if they “do good” for their important friends, they will achieve more.

Too bad all the journalists out their are hacks with no balls, too afraid to have people “attack their twitter”. -_-

No one here wants to wake up, I think they pretend to be dumb to just piss off Democrats/liberals.. I can’ honestly accept this much willful ignorance. They honestly have no idea how propaganda/governments/smear campaigns work.

IT was just released that we are paying for child prostitution in Afghanistan..and that Pfizer did illegal drug experiments on children without them knowing…

And people here are HAPPY Julian Assange is doing bad.. WHY? Do you not want to know the next horrible thing that was hidden to us? If that’s the case, you’re kind of an enemy to the United States. You don’t care about teh well-being of our country, you’d willfully and happily hide the truth. UnAmerican behavior.

I think the original Tea Partiers would probably be very ashamed of the Tea Party movement. You guys don’t give a shit about the truth.

I was once called “a blame America first” guy in a debate with a neocon (Karl Denninger) and since then I think that pretty much sums up the difference. A secure man can admit his own mistakes, but some of us just don’t yet have the maturity to realize that just because we admit we made a mistake it doesn’t mean you want us to “lose”. This isn’t a football game, but many Americans think it is.

We need more transparency but how can you get that when transparency is a “threat to the system”?

  • hgovernick

“Storming off certainly made a statement, but just imagine if Assange responded calmly, he potentially could have made the unnecessarily explicit question look foolish instead of himself. ”

The writer of this article is admitting it was an “unnecessarily explicit question”. If it was an “unnecessarily explicit question”, then Assange’s response was not inappropriate, and, in my opinion, his description of the reporter as a “tabloid schmuck” was right on the money.

The regulation and control of the Internet has been an ongoing goal of government years before Assange came along. If authorities decide to use Assange as a patsy for their fascist maneuvers, it will be no different that Bush using WMDs as a false excuse for allowing for millions of deaths and / or mutilations as the result of 2 UNAUTHORIZED wars.
