Maher Rails Against PC Mob: People Have the Right to Be ‘A**holes!’

It seems like week after week, there’s some new piece of PC outrage on the web that’s gotten everyone so shocked and offended (the Duck Dynasty guy, the Benham brothers), and Bill Maher ended his show tonight telling the politically correct crowd to knock if off. But it wasn’t all dour, he said it’s fine to stop whining all the time because “the culture war is over and we won!”

Why? Well, the Michael Sam kiss shocked the nation, some football player wasn’t too happy about it, and the NFL fined him and sent him to sensitivity training, but not before everyone tweet-shamed him (as Maher mockingly put it “I’m the real hero, I’m hitting send!”). But where’s the culture war victory here? The fact that there was actually an interracial gay kiss broadcast on television.

But Maher lamented that “social media is all about gotcha” now and trying to make bad people go away because they said or did bad things in the past. He explained that people, like it or not, have the right to be an “asshole,” and “you can’t purge everybody” who doesn’t evolve on certain issues at the same timeline as you, because if the CEO of Mozilla has to go, then so do President Obama and Hillary Clinton for not getting on the gay marriage bandwagon sooner.
