Rand Paul, in Response to a Question About Marijuana: ‘I Made Mistakes’
Senator Rand Paul is pushing to loosen drug laws for non-violent offenders that he believes unfairly punish people living in poor and minority neighborhoods. And in an interview today talking about that, the discussion made its way around to whether Paul himself smoked marijuana when he was young.
And in true political fashion, Paul did not give a straight answer. “Let’s just say I wasn’t a choir boy when I was in college,” he said, “and that I can recognize that kids make mistakes, and I can say that I made mistakes when I was a kid.”
He then pointed out that President Obama, along with George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, either admitted to smoking marijuana or “skirted around the issue” and they didn’t get in trouble because they had luxuries other people don’t.
