#ToiletBaby: Nancy Grace’s Incredibly Bizarre Use of Hashtags
Hashtags can be useful tools for cable news shows to develop a loyal social following. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes has #inners; his colleague Ed Schultz has #edshow; Melissa Harris-Perry has #NerdLand; and, over at Fox, there’s #TheFive. And what does HLN’s Nancy Grace have? #ToiletBaby.
Yes, you read that correctly.
In order to promote a story about a young woman giving birth in a toilet and proceeding to murder the infant, Grace’s show has its fans tweeting responses by using #ToiletBaby. Helpful screengrab, via TVNewser:

But wait. There’s more. A day after the #ToiletBaby hashtag engaged viewers and left its exploitative mark on social media, Grace’s show returned with another doozy: #BabyInTrash.
That hashtag was in reference to a story about, yup… a baby found in a pile of trash.

So, in the future, when you see bizarre hashtags like #ToiletBaby trending on Twitter, you’ll know: it was Grace and her show’s tone-deafness. Here’s looking forward to #IceChestBaby.
