Wael Ghonim Credits Journalists With Saving Lives: “You Guys Are Heroes As Well”
On CNN, Egyptian protester and activist Wael Ghonim took a moment to turn the focus from the uprising that’s led to the end of the Mubarak regime in Egypt, to the international media who covered the story–at their own physical risk. “You guys are heroes as well,” Ghonim told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Friday.
In stark contrast to Mubarak, who up to his speech Thursday night continued to suggest that the uprising was being fueled not by the people of Egypt, but rather by “international satellite networks,” (CNN is carried live by satellite in Egypt) the protesters have been grateful, Ghonim said, for continuing to carry the pictures from Tahrir Square and across Egypt to the world:
“You guys have played a great role in saving the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people,” Ghonim said. “CNN did a great job. You guys deserve a great recognition from the Egyptian people and we are not going to forget your role. You guys are heroes as well. You are part of the revolution. You should be proud of yourself.”
