Worlds Collide: Mad Men on Oprah
Ok, Oprah just got slightly cooler. Mad Men stars Jon Hamm and January Jones will be guests on her show on Monday. And, the entire episode will have a retro-chic 1960s theme to it, including a segment that sounds like Oprah’s Favorite Things: 60s edition.
According to the AMC website, “the Queen of Talk is a fan of the series and is spotlighting it as part of a special edition of her show entitled ‘Oprah Goes Back in Time: The 60s.’” ETOnline says that Oprah, Hamm, Jones, and the entire studio audience will be “garbed in their best ’60s costumes.” At the risk of pulling the lazy ‘hipster’ card: a lot of ‘hipsters’ just got jealous.
Don Draper might not be a Whitney Houston-caliber household name, but this seems like a good way for the show to engage a younger, hepper audience. Or maybe Oprah’s responding to fears that her presidential endorsement of Barack Obama alienated America by trying to reach the elusive Mad Men-loving, Obama-hating demographic?
Though it is not from the 1960s, here is the oddly compelling “Oprah’s Favorite Things” SNL skit, just cause.
