Beg Your Pardon? Trump Hosts Indicted Mayor Eric Adams at Mar-a-Lago

New York Mayor Eric Adams, who was indicted on federal corruption charges last year, traveled to Mar-a-Lago on Thursday to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.
The New York Times reported on the upcoming meeting, which was not on the Democratic mayor’s public calendar.
“Mayor Adams has made quite clear his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers — and that partnership with the federal government is critical to New York City’s success,” said Fabien Levy, the mayor’s spokesman, in an email to the Times.
Adams was indicted in September and was charged with acting on behalf of the Turkish government “as an unregistered foreign agent for taking actions in his official capacity as mayor after receiving donations from foreign sources.”
A Department of Justice release at the time stated:
ADAMS, 64, of Brooklyn, New York, is charged with one count of conspiracy to receive campaign contributions from foreign nationals and commit wire fraud and bribery, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison; one count of wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison; two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals, which each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison; and one count of soliciting and accepting a bribe, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
The mayor has previously said he would be open to the idea of receiving a presidential pardon.
“The mayor looks forward to having a productive conversation with the incoming president on how we can move our city and country forward,” Levy added.
In October, Adams attended the Al Smith Dinner in October, where Trump roasted him over the indictment.
“Mayor Adams, good luck with everything,” Trump said. “Mr. Mayor, you’re peanuts compared to what they’ve done to me. And you’re gonna be ok.”
