‘Mr. Giuliani, I Don’t Want to Mute You’: Court Commissioner Warns Former Trump Lawyer to Calm Down During Arraignment

Former New York City Mayor and ex-Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani was warned by an Arizona court commissioner on Tuesday to stop complaining or face being muted after he refused to stop ranting about being ordered to pay bail.

Giuliani pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to nine charges related to the Trump campaign’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election and was arraigned via video call.

In audio of the call aired by CNN, Giuliani could be heard complaining, “I’ve been indicted in Georgia. I’ve appeared on every occasion. I’ve been sued about 20, 25 times by a very similar movement to this one, which is the ‘Let’s See What We Can Do to Destroy Donald Trump Movement.'”

“Okay, give me just a moment. Okay. Sir. Sir,” the commissioner replied.

Giuliani continued, “I would consider this indictment a complete embarrassment to the American legal system, but I’ve shown no tendency not to comply. I show up for every court appearance and there must have been about 20 to 30 of them. There is no history of my being a flight risk, which is the basis for setting bail.”

“Alright, sir, I think I understand your position,” the commissioner replied politely again. “Thank you, sir. Give me one moment.”

Giuliani, however, continued to rant against the court, telling the commissioner, “I think it would be outrageous if you set bond in this completely political case that comes very, very late.”

“Alright. Sir. Sir. Mr. Giuliani, I don’t want to mute you, but I need to move on,” the commissioner warned. “Give me just a moment. I understand what your position is regarding release conditions.”

Prior to being served with a notice of indictment at his 80th birthday party on Friday, Giuliani taunted prosecutors about their inability to find him.

“If Arizona authorities can’t find me by tomorrow morning: 1. They must dismiss the indictment; 2. They must concede they can’t count votes,” wrote Giuliani in a social media post shortly before being served with the notice of indictment.
