‘You Can Feel the Air of Menace’: Fox Legal Analyst Credits TikTok For People ‘Waking Up’ On Crime in ‘Democratic-Run’ Cities
As many politicians seek to ban TikTok in the United States due to its ties to China, one legal analyst praised the social media platform on Fox News for realistically portraying crime in big cities.
The Republican-led House of Representatives recently passed a bipartisan bill that would force TikTok’s parent company to divest from Chinese ownership for fear the communist country is using the technology to spy on Americans. President Joe Biden has committed to signing the bill if it makes it through the Democratic-led Senate.
Brian Kilmeade played a series of TikTok clips portraying violent crime in a variety of cities and rued the fact that many of those committing the crimes have been arrested multiple times.
“You wonder why the police are frustrated? Wake up, New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia!” Kilmeade said. He then introduced Fox News contributor Paul Mauro who credited TikTok videos with shining a light on rampant crime.
“You know what really is driving the pushback, is social media,” Mauro said. “Because people on social media — it’s not curated. People can’t get in front of it like the media to kind of manage the message. People, as you saw, with these TikToks, are getting out there and they’re talking about what’s actually happening. So, as much as we all have some issues with TikTok — the other social media sites, same thing. People are speaking.”
“You can feel the air of menace in the subways and in the streets,” Mauro said, “And people are waking up to it.”
Mauro added, “This time the devolution is televised. Because we have social media, there’s video everywhere, you can’t hide it. They would love to, trust me, but they can’t. And, so, people are seeing it and videos like that, seeing is believing. People understand what we are getting into.”
