LISTEN: Giuliani Rips ‘Unethical’ Mueller for ‘Destructive’, ‘Un-American’ Tactics, Treating Manafort ‘Like He’s a Terrorist’
Former Mayor of New York City and current attorney for President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani was interviewed by John Catsimatidis on New York’s AM 970, Sunday, and trashed Robert Mueller and his team for what he called “intimidation” and an “unethical” investigation.
“I think the special prosecutor has stepped over the line, now, with the way he’s intimidating people in order to tell what he believes is his version of the truth,” said Giuliani. He said they’ve had Paul Manfort “in solitary confinement for five to six months,” and have “repeatedly questioned him.”
“They want him to give certain forms of evidence that would implicate the president in things that Mr. Manafort says are untrue,” he continued. “And at some point, after you do this four, five, six times, you’ve got to accept the fact that, well, Mr. Manafort maybe doesn’t have the recollection they’d like, and they are pressuring him and creating the real risk that the man might commit perjury.”
Giuliani is obviously setting the argument that if Manafort does say something that implicates Trump, it must be because he was essentially tortured into it by Mueller.
“After a while, this kind of pressure can create the risk of tainted testimony,” said Giuliani, to that end. He went on to describe how he was in solitary confinement and spends twenty-two or twenty-three hours a day. “They just let him out for a short period, and then every once in a while they go grab, they bring him to their office, and they interrogate him.”
“An ethical prosecutor would stop this, and pursue some other line of inquiry with other people,” said Giuliani.
“Is Manafort an American citizen?” asked Catsimatidis.
“Of course he’s an American citizen,” said Giuliani. “[but] he’s being treated like he’s a terrorist.”
“You can only exert a certain amount of pressure before it becomes unethical and destructive,” he said.
When it came to other figures in the investigation, Giuliani also said that Michael Cohen is “a serial liar,” with a history of “significant lies” and ethical lapses. He suggests that Mueller’s team is giving him a break because he’ll say what they want.
“This isn’t a search for truth, it’s a witch hunt,” he said, but was not done. After host Catsimatidis said the American people are “shocked” by the behavior of the investigators and prosecutors, Giuliani continued.
“This is what is wrong with these special prosecutors and independent counsels. They think they’re God. I mean they think they know the only truth that exists, even if there’s a lot of doubt about it. They seem to want to prosecute people at any cost, including the cost of ethical behavior or the rights of people,” he said “And because, you know, seventy to eighty percent of the mainstream media is biased, they get away with it.”
He revisited more problems with Cohen’s character, and then was offered the chance to say something “to the American public” by the host.
“I’d like to tell the American public that this has to come to an end now,” he said. He praised Trump’s time at the G20 and “remarkable results” he gets when he negotiates with other nations. “We should let this president be president,” he said, and “not pursue him” for something that has not been proved after two years.
He said Mueller should “put up or shut up” and stop using “oppressive tactics that are un-American” in his “totally prejudiced and biased investigation.”
