This Is How You Send a Memorial Day Message, George W. Bush Edition

This morning, President Donald Trump’s tweet for Memorial Day went over rather poorly for its inward focus. Others have sent better messages (including whoever wrote and sent the later tweet from Trump’s account) that were better received.

One standout was the Instagram post from former president George W. Bush.

Former President Bush has been painting the portraits of wounded and fallen troops, of veterans here at home and those who fought in war under his command, for years now.

Today he shared a portrait and a tribute to Marine David Wright, who died this month.

This is a poignant remembrance, and one that not only captures the spirit of this day but tenor with which it should be addressed by leaders, current and former.

To David Wright, Semper Fidelis and rest in peace, Marine.
