The View’s Sunny Hostin Rejects Feeling ‘Somber’ About Trump Conviction: ‘I Felt Like America Won!’

The View co-host Sunny Hostin waved off Americans feeling “somber” about Donald Trump being convicted of 34 felonies, declaring she was absolutely giddy and it felt like a national and a personal win.

They brought in a full house of hosts for Friday’s show following the former president being found guilty on 34 counts in his Manhattan hush money trial. The table included Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

“This is a very unique moment in history. That’s why we’re all at the table,” Goldberg said, then declaring that Trump is a convicted felon while trying to hold back laughter.

Navarro accused the former president of making her life a “living hell” for years.

“This is a man who made my life a living hell for four years, has made the life of our country a living hell for six years and so he deserves to be [held] accountable,” she said.

Navarro said she alternated between excitement and “somber” feelings over Trump’s convictions.

Haines built on this, calling the news “sobering” and describing being with her son when the news came on and he asked her which candidate she was supporting.

“I remember feeling like something punched me in my chest and it wasn’t because — this isn’t a binary reaction, it’s not because I’m sad it happy, it was so somber and sober to get that news because we have a former president convicted who is also running for office,” she said.

Hostin contrasted this by describing how exuberant she was over the news that Trump is now a felon.

“I was at my daughter’s high school graduation… I didn’t feel somber,” she said. “I felt like the Knicks won the tournament! I felt like America won! I felt like New York won! I felt the Manhattan DA’s office won! I felt like I won!”

Griffin, a former communications official in Trump’s administration, warned her co-hosts that it will be “rage and retribution” season for Trump from here on out.

“Knowing Donald Trump personally, there’s something in him that thinks he’s untouchable and will get away with everything, and even though this was the likely outcome, I don’t think he thought it was going to come… He’s going to do and say absolutely anything that he can to get elected, so buckle up because it’s rage and retribution ahead.”
