The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Declares Republicans Want to ‘Bring Slavery Back’ Following Arizona’s Near Total Abortion Ban

The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg declared on Wednesday that some Republicans would likely be okay with slavery coming back following the Arizona Supreme Court reinstating an 1864 near-total abortion ban.

The Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling has sparked intense debate within the state and outside as the law provides no exceptions for abortion except to save the life of the mother.

On Wednesday’s The View, Goldberg questioned what else people who support the abortion ban could end up supporting.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin called the ruling a “big win” for Democrats and argued most elected Republicans are out of step on the issue of abortion. Arizona’s Kari Lake, who is running for the U.S. Senate, broke with most Republicans and came out against the law.

“A lot of elected Republicans are completely out of step with the sentiment of the country because we’ve seen in Kansas, a very red state, Ohio, and Kentucky that Republicans turned out to protect access to abortion so this is a big win for Democrats,” Griffin argued.

Golberg added to that argument by suggesting some Republicans are far more than just out of step.

“Take a look at the things that they’re rolling back. Remember I said ages ago, you know, in their minds they want to bring slavery back,” she said. “They’re okay with it because you see things change — now one of the good things about the Supreme Court is you can fight to make sure you make stuff better. You don’t generally fight to make stuff worse.”

Goldberg asked what comes next after such a sweeping ban on abortion in Arizona.

“To me, if you’re okay rolling that back, when things were not even a state, when we had no say…so how’s that going to roll? How’s that going to roll? What’s the next thing?” she said. “Because you know with all of this comes birth control, with all of this comes everything that you need as a woman to have had put in place to make sure that we are doing better than we were before.”
