Al-Matin Mohamed remains in serious condition after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Murray Hill early Saturday morning. The driver was allegedly fleeing the scene of a mugging in his car, and had run over a cop’s foot and hit another woman, before crashing into Mohamed at 40-50 miles an hour, according to a witness. After dragging the bike, the car eventually crashed into a laundromat, at which point, the driver began his escape on foot.

Mohamed, who was in New York working with Le Bernardin’s pastry chefs for a month, suffered a head trauma, two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and a broken arm. According to Gothamist, he’s “clinging to life.”

We’ve reached out to Le Bernardin with regard to the tragedy, and they declined to comment. Our hearts go out to Mohamed, his family, and the pastry team.
