Earth Day falls conveniently on a Meatless Monday this year — April 22nd — and Mario Batali will be celebrating at a handful of Batali & Bastianich Restaurants with special menus, offering carbon-footprint-negligible meals.
Casa Mono and Bar Jamon are choosing basil as their secret ingredient of choice, and will be featuring dishes utilizing every part of the basil plant (stems, leaves, and seeds).
You can also visit the Batali & Bastianich family vegetable plot at the New York Botanical Gardens and check out what each restaurant is growing in its own little patch there.
