Oliver Anthony, the singer who went viral with his 2023 song “Rich Men North of Richmond,” released a new song this month about a court ordering him to give his ex-wife 50% of his money.
Anthony released the song “Scornful Woman” last week – a “diss track” on his ex-wife, according to Joe Rogan, with lyrics about how “the math” of the divorce “don’t seem right” after the court ordered him to give her 50% of his assets.
“And now the middle of the day is like the middle of the night, and the court says 50/50 but the math don’t seem right, with a Scornful Woman,” sings Anthony in the song. “She can have all the money and they can keep all the fame, I’d go back to being broke as a joke if I could just get a break from the pain.”
Rogan, who gave advice to Anthony after the singer blew up on YouTube in 2023, revealed the backstory to the new song on his show last week.
“He starts making millions of dollars, doing arenas. The wife divorces him,” said Rogan. “She wants everything. She wants everything. She wants more than half. She wants all the money he’s gonna make in the future because she was with him when he was broke. It’s fucking crazy. He’s just tortured, like wants to die, wants to die, and he writes this song.”
Rogan described the song as the “craziest diss track of all time,” while Bulwark senior reporter Will Sommer branded it a “divorce anthem.”
