Trump Blows Off Actor Protest at Kennedy Center — Brags About Crackdown In LA
President Donald Trump blew off a protest by Les Misérables actors, telling reporters he “couldn’t care less” and bragging about his crackdown on protests in Los Angeles and his tariff policies.
Trump’s hostile takeover of the Kennedy Center has prompted backlash that has included the jeering of Vance and his family at a performance in March, protests from artists, and a boycott by at least 10 Les Mis cast members for the performance that Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended Wednesday night.
The president spoke with reporters on the red carpet for about 10 minutes before his entrance to the performance as he and Melania posed for pictures.
After an exchange with Fox News correspondent Gillian Turner on the protests against his immigration raids across the country, another reporter asked Trump about the actor protests.
Trump jumped in to answer before she could even finish the question:
REPORTER: Mr. President, what are you saying to the actors who are boycotting tonight?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Who wins?
REPORTER: It’s been reported that some actors may be boycotting tonight–
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I couldn’t care less! Honestly, I could–. All I do is run the country well.
The economic numbers, you saw them today, they’re setting records. We took $88 billion in tariffs in two months, far beyond what anybody expected.
There’s no inflation. People are happy. People are wealthy. The country is getting back to strength again. That’s what I care about.
And we’re going to have a safe country. We’re not going to what would have happened in Los Angeles. Remember. If I wasn’t there, if I didn’t act quickly on that, Los Angeles would be burning to the ground right now. Thank you.
Trump was met with boos from detractors and cheers and chants from supporters after he and Melania made their entrance to the auditorium.
