Longtime news anchor Geraldo Rivera is joining NewsNation as a correspondent, according to a statement issued by the network on Wednesday.

Rivera, 80, will have the title correspondent-at-large with plans to appear on the network during daytime and prime-time coverage. Previously, Rivera has appeared on NewsNation for various interviews over the last few months to react to major political stories.

“Geraldo is a legendary journalist whose talent and experience is unrivaled in the industry,” said Michael Corn, president of news at NewsNation, in a statement. “We look forward to him joining the network and providing our viewers with his one-of-a-kind analysis.”

After more than two decades at Fox News, Rivera announced last June that he was leaving the network. Before his departure, Rivera was a co-host of the popular evening program The Five.

The award-winning journalist has a long career in news media, covering some of the most important events of the last 50 years, including the Iraq War, Hurricane Katrina, Michael Jackson’s trial, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After leaving Fox, Rivera claimed he was fired from The Five, which spurred his decision to quit the network altogether, adding that he had a “very toxic relationship” with one of his cast members, leading many observers to believe he was referring to Greg Gutfeld.

Rivera’s first on-air appearance in his new role will be tonight with anchor Chris Cuomo at 8 p.m. ET.
