Peter Serpico, David Chang’s Right-Hand Man, Moves To Philadelphia
For those of you not in the New York Dining Scene, Peter Serpico is Kind Of A Big Deal. Once the director of culinary operations for David Chang’s Momofuku restaurants, Serpico won a James Beard Award as chef de cuisine for the fancy, 16-seat Momofuku Ko.
And now Philadelphia gets to have him, the lucky drunkies. Eater reports that Serpico teamed up with famed restaurateur Stephen Starr to open a 52-seat restaurant on Philly’s South Street by the end of December. “It was a lifestyle choice for me,” Serpico tells Eater, who hints that the restaurant will do “funky stuff a la Momofuku” — “stuffed lamb ribs, duck leg dogs, and oxtail soup with dumplings.” (The author is now making plans to visit Philadelphia, provided that those duck legs are confit duck legs.)
Though Eater had spotted the two palling around Philadelphia for a while, the news that Serpico would add his name to the culinary star-studded city got them super giddy. “This is going to be a barn-burner of a concept,” they wrote, “and will help revitalize South Street east of Broad.”
