‘Appalled’: U.S. Blasts UN Security Council For Failure to Condemn Hamas For Oct. 7th Attack — First U.S. Hostage Reported Killed
The U.S. ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, slammed the UN Security Council on Friday for its ongoing unwillingness to condemn Hamas for its horrific attack on Israel on October 7th.
“Ultimately, while we are encouraged that the council spoke out on this humanitarian crisis we’re deeply disappointed — appalled, actually — that once again, the council was not able to condemn Hamas for the horrific terrorist attack [it perpetrated] on October 7,” Thomas-Greenfield said after the council passed a resolution calling to increase aid into Gaza and for Hamas to release the remaining hostages held in captivity.
“I can’t understand why — why some council members are standing in the way and why they refuse to condemn these evils unequivocally,” she continued, adding:
Why is it so hard to condemn Hamas for slaughtering young people at a concert, for butchering families alive, for the reports of widespread sexual violence. I will never understand why some council members have remained silent in the face of such evil.
Gadi Haggai, 73, became the first American hostage held by Hamas confirmed killed by the terror group on Friday. His wife Judih Weinstein Haggai, 70, is still believed to be a hostage, Hamas gunmen reportedly kidnapped the couple on October 7th while they were taking an early morning walk near their home in southern Israel. CNN reported Gadi was shot during the attack and critically wounded — his body is now being held as a “bargaining chip,” added CNN’s Jeremy Diamond.
