Donald Trump roasted a reporter from National Public Radio during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One on Friday, with the president seemingly surprised that NPR was still on the air.

In July, the House approved Trump’s plan to claw back $1.1 billion for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which funds NPR, PBS, and their member stations. Although the move hasn’t caused NPR to shut down, the cuts mean some local stations can no longer afford to air NPR content.

The reporter asked about Trump’s declaration that antifa was a “major terrorist organization”

“Regarding antifa, what you posted — ” the reporter began as Trump interrupted to ask, “Who are you with?”

“NPR, sir,” the reporter answered.

Trump allowed that to register before asking quizzically, “NPR? Are they still here?”

“We are,” the reporter replied.

TRUMP: Oh, good. Congratulations.

NPR REPORTER: Regarding designating them a terrorist organization, when they don’t have defined leadership or membership, how do you target them?

TRUMP: Who is it?

NPR REPORTER: Antifa.

TRUMP: We’re gonna find out, right? We’re gonna see. People have been talking about it for a long time. We’re going to see. Did they have anything to do with your network? Antifa?

NPR REPORTER: No.

TRUMP: Okay. But we’re going to find out.

One America News Network captured the exchanged and posted it to X.

Earlier this week, Trump posted to Truth Social, “I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Antifa stands for “anti-fascist,” and is considered a “broad, loosely affiliated coalition of left-wing activists.”

PBS reported, “Although it is widely considered a political movement, antifa is not an organization with an official membership, leader or base for operations, and it is often organized into autonomous local groups.”
