Biden Flack Who Vouched for Ex-President’s Mental Capacity Testifies He Only Ever Spoke With Him 4 Times

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said a spokesperson for former President Joe Biden who publicly defended his “mental fitness and state of mind” only spoke to Biden four times during his more than two years of service.

Ian Sams, the former spokesperson for the Biden White House Counsel’s Office, sat for a transcribed interview with Comer and the Oversight Committee this week as they continue to probe the Biden White House and questions about Biden’s mental and physical health.

In a statement about Sams’s testimony, Comer said Sams revealed only four interactions with Biden — and just two of them were in person.

“Ian Sams frequently spoke publicly and with apparent authority about President Biden’s mental fitness and state of mind. However, Mr. Sams admitted he had very limited interaction with the President—identifying only two in-person meetings, one virtual meeting, and one phone call. In fact, Special Counsel Robert Hur probably spent more time with President Biden than Mr. Sams did,” Comer wrote.

Comer accused Sams of receiving “much of his direction from the White House Counsel and Biden’s inner circle.” Sams served under Biden from 2022 to 2024.

“Mr. Sams’s testimony raises serious questions about who is truly calling the shots in the White House. We will continue to press for answers to ensure full transparency for the American people,” he wrote.

Sams was one of a number Biden officials to take to the airwaves and defend the then-president as critics continued to question his stamina and mental fitness. Sams blasted “gratuitous” and “inappropriate” comments made by Special Counsel Robert Hur on a probe into Biden possessing classified documents. Hur had commented that a jury could view Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory.

“When the inevitable conclusion is that the facts and the evidence don’t support any charges, you’re left to wonder why this report spends time making gratuitous and inappropriate criticisms of the president,” Sams said about the report from the White House in February 2024. In an CNN interview, he also called parts of the report “misleading.”

In 2024, Sams also took to MSNBC following a New York Times report that suggested Biden appearing “confused” to administration officials behind closed doors.

“When I deal with him, he’s sharp. He’s asking tough questions,” Sams said then.

In comments to reports on Thursday, Comer called Sams’s admission he only spoke to the president a handful of times “shocking.”
