Newsmax Settles With Dominion Over Trump Election Lies — For Multi-Millions

Newsmax will pay Dominion Voting Systems $67 million to settle the defamation lawsuit brought against the right-leaning news outlet over its pushing of debunked claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
The settlement reads that “parties agreed to resolve the lawsuit among them for a total amount of $67 million to be paid in the current and next two fiscal years. The payments will be made in three installments: (1) $27 million paid on August 15, 2025; (2) $20 million on or before January 15, 2026; and (3) $20 million on or before January 15, 2027.” No additional details regarding the settlement were provided in the initial documents.”
Newsmax soon after released a defiant statement on its website, saying, “Newsmax believed it was critically important for the American people to hear both sides of the election disputes that arose in 2020. We stand by our coverage as fair, balanced, and conducted within professional standards of journalism.” The statement was included in an article on the settlement, which added:
Despite its confidence in its reporting, Newsmax determined the Delaware Court with Judge Eric Davis presiding over the case would not provide a fair trial wherein the company could present standard libel defenses to a jury.
Judge Davis also presided over the case of Dominion vs. Fox News where he was harshly criticized by then Fox’s chief legal officer for his actions and rulings.
Fox News, a much larger outlet than Newsmax, settled a similar lawsuit in April 2023 with the Denver-based electronic voting systems company for a whopping $787.5 million. Dominion CEO John Poulos praised the Fox settlement at the time, saying that the “case underscores the consequences of spreading lies.”
