Chinese dictator Xi Jinping received a standing ovation from U.S. business leaders at a ritzy dinner in San Francisco on Wednesday night.

Xi, the architect of the genocide his country is prosecuting against its Uyghur Muslim minority and authoritarian leader of America’s chief geopolitical rival, visited San Francisco during the for a meeting with President Joe Biden and other American officials.

At the meeting, Biden and Xi discussed the American fentanyl epidemic — which owes largely to the manufacture and shipping of chemicals made in China to the Americas, military-to-military communication, as well as the global landscape more generally.

Biden called their conversation “some of the most constructive and productive discussions we’ve had,” while Xi told Biden that “the United States should not scheme to suppress or contain China.”

Afterwards, Xi attended a banquet at the Hyatt Regency where he was the guest of honor — and honored by a standing ovation from business leaders who paid to be in his presence.

According to CNBC, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Blackstone’s Steve Schwarzman, BlackRock’s Larry Fink, Bridgewater Associates’ Ray Dalio, Pfizer’s Albert Boula, Boeing’s Stan Deal, and Visa’s Raj Subramaniam were all present for the occasion, which was hosted by the U.S.-China Business Council and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.

The price tag for attending the reception was $2,000, but for those who wished to be seated at Xi’s table, that cost was a staggering $40,000.

On Tuesday Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party blasted the business leaders for the decision to pay to spend time with the Chinese leader.

“It is unconscionable that American companies might pay thousands of dollars to join a ‘welcome dinner’ hosted by the very same CCP officials who have facilitated a genocide against millions of innocent men, women, and children in Xinjiang,” wrote Gallagher in a statement.
