Fox News’ Steve Doocy Chokes Up As Parents Remember Soldier Killed in Jordan And Wait For Call From Biden
Fox News’ Steve Doocy got choked up as the parents of 24-year Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders remembered the fallen soldier as a hero and waited to receive condolences from President Joe Biden.
Sanders was one of three U.S. soldiers killed Sunday by an Iranian-backed drone strike in northeastern Jordan. The fallen included Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, GA; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, GA. President Biden said he has decided how to respond to Iran but has not yet disclosed his plan.
“How would you like the United States to respond?” Doocy asked Sanders’ mother, Oneida Sanders.
“As a grieving parent, I would not want to see any other parent go through what we’re going through right now,” she said, continuing:
But given the circumstances, our child and the others who lost their lives are considered heroes in this situation. However the president or United States decides to respond, it won’t change our situation at all. So, we just choose to move forward and continue to pray for those who are still there and continue to pray for Kennedy’s battle buddies who are still there who are also grieving. Grieving the loss of Kennedy, Moffett, and Rivers. We just continue to pray for them. So, you know, whatever is decided, I trust it will be a good decision that keeps everyone in the safest position as possible.
“In the best interest of the United States,” added Sanders’ father, Shawn Sanders.
“Oneida, you just mentioned the President of the United States. Have you heard from the president or anybody at the White House, anybody other than the guy who knocked on your door?” Doocy asked.
“I have heard from other government officials. Also the governor of Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp has put in a call to us. Congressmen who represent our area have called us. We are having an appointment this afternoon with the casualty assistance officer who told us we have to complete paperwork in order for the president to be released to call us. So, we are expecting a call from President Biden,” Oneida Sanders said.
“They reassured us the president or secretary of state was willing to call us. Well, wanted the opportunity to call us. We just needed to sign the proper paperwork,” Shawn Sanders added.
At the end of the interview, co-host Carley Shimkus said, “She’ll always be your baby girl. Thank you so much for allowing us to get to know her a little bit better…God bless you and your family.”
“Kennedy Sanders was 24 years old,” Doocy said, his voice catching in his throat.
