President Donald Trump raged over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to strike Hamas negotiators in Qatar last week, according to a new report.
In a Wall Street Journal report published on Thursday, Trump’s reported response to Netanyahu’s move was detailed, including complaining to senior officials that the Israeli prime minister is “f**king” him and his goals of a negotiated ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
“He’s f**king me,” Trump told senior aides, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a meeting on Israel’s Doha strike, according to officials familiar with the situation.
Israel’s strike led to the death of multiple Hamas officials. Rubio previously made it clear that Trump was not “happy” with the strike, but it has not changed the United States’ position.
“We’re going to continue to be strong allies and partners. As the president said, he wasn’t happy with the way things went down. That doesn’t mean we’re going [to] stop being their partner and their ally,” Rubio told Fox News.
Trump held two phone calls with Netanyahu after the strike, one to express his “displeasure” and a friendlier call on the success of Israel’s mission, according to the Journal report. The president also spoke with the Qatari leadership over Israel’s controversial decision, thanking them for being a mediator in peace negotiations.
Officials told the outlet that despite Trump’s displeasure with Israel, he does not want a “public” break, and he remains close to Netanyahu.
A senior Israeli official called it “fake news” that Trump and Netanyahu are not aligned on the current war, and former Netanyahu spokesperson Omer Dostri called Trump and Netanyahu “very, very tight.”
Trump has previously dropped the “F bomb” on Netanyahu. In 2021, Trump slammed Netanyahu during a pair of interviews with Axios’s Barak Ravid, noting he and Netanyahu hadn’t spoken since he congratulated then-President-elect Joe Biden.
“The first person that congratulated [Biden] was Bibi Netanyahu, the man that I did more for than any other person I dealt with. … Bibi could have stayed quiet. He has made a terrible mistake,” fumed Trump at the time, even adding a “F*ck him” for emphasis.
