Ilhan Omar Scorches Elon Musk For Sharing ‘Manipulated’ Video And Falsely Accusing Her of Breaking the Law

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) hit back at Elon Musk on Tuesday after the Trump ally and Tesla billionaire accused her of breaking the law while sharing a “manipulated” video of her.
Musk shared a clip posted to his X platform from a MAGA influencer that claimed, “Ilhan Omar is conducting seminars for Somalians who are living illegally in the U.S. without documentation, providing guidance on how to evade deportation.” Musk added a caption to the post declaring, “She is breaking the law. Literally. Outright.”
Omar hit back a few hours later and wrote, “Hey Elon, Every single person in this country deserves to know their rights. That’s legal.”
“Maybe you should brush up on our laws given the fact you’re breaking them to steal American’s sensitive data. PS. This video is manipulated, and I wasn’t even at the event shown,” Omar concluded.
Under the U.S. Constitution, illegal migrants in the U.S. are granted several legal protections, including the right to due process. The Fifth Amendment reads that “no person … shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”
Reason’s Billy Binion also hammered Musk for his post, writing, “I am begging Elon Musk to use Google before spreading lies to his millions of followers.”
“Once again: It is not a crime to remind people of their basic rights—which, yes, even undocumented immigrants are entitled to. We do not suspend the Constitution for people you dislike. Elon Musk complains a lot about fake news. Like, a lot. And yet he relentlessly spreads it. You do not get to complain about media integrity if you are not willing to hold yourself to the same standard. Deeply unserious,” Binion added.
Freshman Republican Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) also shared part of the clip from Musk’s post and wrote, “America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia.”
Gill’s tweet sparked anger online as many pundits and observers hit back, including MAGA-friendly commentator Glenn Greenwald who wrote, “She’s an American citizen. Stop talking about deporting American citizens. She also built her own career, with no family connections to unnaturally boost her.”
