Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Greets Sen. John Fetterman: ‘Israel Has Had No Better Friend’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu greeted Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) during his trip to Israel on Wednesday by noting the country “has had no better friend.”
In recent months, Fetterman has separated himself from other progressive Democrats by defending Israel from criticism amid the current war against Hamas in the Gaza region. Fetterman arrived on Tuesday for his first-ever trip to Israel, according to The Jerusalem Post.
Fetterman has repeatedly condemned Hamas for the October 7th attack on Israel and slammed his progressive peers over their calls for the U.S. to end military and financial assistance to Israel.
“We’ve been through dark times in these months of anguished war, and during that time, I can say that Israel has had no better friend than Sen. John Fetterman,” Netanyahu told reporters while standing next to the senator at a Wednesday press conference.

“Senator, welcome to Israel. I want to thank you for your courageous statements that show moral clarity and moral courage. And you just say the way it is. And we appreciate this friendship at all times, but especially at these times. So welcome, friend. Welcome,” he added.
Fetterman responded by thanking Netanyahu, “We stand with Israel through this. And, I’m so sorry for what’s been done to this nation, but, I’m just an honor to be here today.”
Netanyahu ended the conference by telling Fetterman that he plans on repaying the friendly gesture by visiting him back in Washington, D.C.
