JD Vance Grouses at Stephanopoulos Asking if He’s ‘Sanctioning’ Sexual Assault By Backing Trump: That’s ‘Insulting To Victims’
Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that it’s “insulting to victims of sexual assault” to imply their lives would be worse if they voted for Donald Trump.
Stephanopoulos played a Democrat-backed PSA centered around the E. Jean Carroll rape and defamation cases, then asked Vance how he felt about it.
The PSA said in part:
Supporting Donald Trump sends a message to every abuser, every rapist, and every man who ever used his power to hurt a woman. Because if he can do it, why shouldn’t they?
Stephanopoulos then asked Vance, “How do you respond to that, that your support of Trump is sanctioning that kind of behavior, sexual assault and defamation?”
“Well, I think it’s actually very unfair to victims of sexual assault to to say that somehow their lives are being worse by electing Donald Trump for president when what he’s trying to do I think, is restore prosperity,” Vance said. “So, I think it’s insulting to victims of sexual assault. If you actually look at so many of the court cases against Donald Trump, George, this is not about prosecuting Trump for what he did. It’s about throwing him off the ballot because Democrats believe that they can’t beat him at the ballot box and so they’re trying to defeat him in court.”
Vance went on to say that that Americans want to elect a president over important issues, “not over these ridiculous court cases that, frankly, they’ve been throwing at Trump from well before he became a political candidate.”
Stephanopoulos pushed back, “You call it a ridiculous case; these were juries that found him liable for sexual assault and defamation. That’s ridiculous?”
“These are juries, George, in extremely left-wing jurisdictions. These are cases that are very often funded by left-wing donors. And they’re cases that are funded explicitly to harm him politically, not to seek justice for any group of individuals,” Vance said.
