John Oliver Goes OFF on ‘Brain-Dead Bigot’ House Republican, ‘Dipsh*t’ Right-Wing Media Figures Over Israel-Hamas War

HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver devoted most of its show on Sunday to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the history behind the Israel-Hamas War, with host John Oliver taking aim at the most blatantly divisive messaging of America’s right-wing media and political figures.

After Oliver highlighted the plight of Palestinian civilians, especially children, he turned to the inflammatory comments made by Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), who said on the floor of the House of Representatives that there are no “innocent Palestinian civilians,” likening the phrase to “innocent Nazi civilians.” Democrats pushed to censure Mast, but withdrew late last week, which didn’t stop Oliver from referring to him as a “brain dead bigot.”:

Just so we’re very clear, there are absolutely innocent Palestinian civilians, in the same way that there are Floridians who aren’t brain-dead bigots with a penis for a head. A region’s worst does not represent them all.

Oliver then turned his attention to consevrative media, playing clips from Newsmax and Fox News that relayed the talking point that Palestinians elected Hamas to run their government, and therefore Palestinians were in full support of Hamas and their terrorist activities. There is some context to this, which Oliver provided, as well as several statistics and footage of a protest in Gaza where the phrase “Fuck Hamas!” is being chanted.

One of those media figures was Fox News host Jesse Watters, who went on a rant earlier this month proclaiming he’d “had it” with Arab Americans and “the Muslim world.” Oliver described him as “Tucker Carlson’s replacement at Fox” who is “a lot like Tucker, except less charismatic, way dumber, and with somehow even more of an ‘I’ve killed someone during a fraternity hazing accident’ vibe.”

Oliver’s main point, however, was that “there was much more criticism of Hamas in Gaza than Americans in general and these dipshits in particular are willing to admit. Palestinians in Gaza are not a monolith and nor importantly, are Israelis.”
