MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery next month, but expects to return to the job within weeks.
Kutler shared the news during an internal editorial call on Wednesday morning, according to CNN’s media correspondent Brian Stelter, after first informing the network’s leadership and speaking privately with several of MSNBC’s top anchors.
In a candid message, Kutler used the moment to urge colleagues to take their own wellbeing seriously, adding that self-care was vital even in the midst of an unprecedented news cycle.
Kutler, who has three children, took over the network’s top job in February amid fierce competition in cable news and an ongoing rebrand, has been credited with steadying MSNBC’s newsroom.
