He’s off to find new roads.
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) has revealed his “new ride” as he tries to stick it to Elon Musk in their ongoing beef.
“Here I am with my new ride,” Kelly posted to X on Sunday. “Chevy. Good ol’ Chevy Tahoe, here in Washington, DC. Got one of these in Tucson as well. This one was made by union labor, United Auto Workers in Arlington, Texas. Always good to buy union cars. Incredibly reliable and I’m looking forward to driving this for many, many years.”
Kelly’s move to trade an electric vehicle for a gas-guzzler like the Tahoe was met with some backlash and sarcasm, with many X users accusing him of turning his back on the climate crisis.
“Thank you for the change of heart,” the U.S. Oil and Gas Association posted to X later Sunday, pointing out that Kelly argued against the use of fossil fuels back in 2020.
Kelly’s conflict with Musk escalated last week, after Kelly, a former U.S. Navy pilot, posted a lengthy thread about his recent visit to Ukraine.
“Just left Ukraine,” he wrote. “What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people. Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin. Let me tell you about my trip and why it’s important we stand with Ukraine.”
Musk replied to the video, calling the former spaceman a “traitor.”
Kelly later hit back at Musk, saying, “Traitor? Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do.” He added:
It’s one bad thing after the next. He’s firing veterans. I’m a veteran. So I have a really hard time driving around in this thing. So I think it’s time for an upgrade today. So this is going to be my last, last trip in this car.
There are some things I really liked about it. There are things I didn’t like about it, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is, you know, doing the right thing. I think it’s time to get rid of it. Elon Musk kind of turned out to be an asshole and I don’t want to be driving a car built and designed by an asshole. So, uh, looking forward to my new ride.
Meanwhile, Musk is getting hammered in a recent NBC News poll that shows a paltry 39 percent of voters approving of him personally, and 51 percent disapproving. Respondents, however, do like the idea of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk has been overseeing.
