Morning Joe Absolutely Crushes Andrew Cuomo for Running ‘A Textbook Terrible Campaign’
Wednesday’s Morning Joe panel ripped former New York governor Andrew Cuomo’s bid for New York City mayor — with one panelist calling it “a textbook terrible campaign.”
The discussion began with host Joe Scarborough citing a Politico article which reported that Cuomo believes President Donald Trump will help his campaign in the final days — perhaps even going so far as to instruct his supporters not to vote for Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate in the race, in an effort to defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.
Scarborough was utterly baffled.
“In the words of Aristotle … this confuses me so much, my teeth hurt,” Scarborough said.
“I’m starting to wonder if the Cuomo mayoral campaign is a performance art where he’s trying to lose,” MSNBC’s Jon Lemire added. “Because he ran an extraordinarily lackluster primary campaign where he barely actually campaigned. And now he’s telling a rich Hamptons crowd — look, you gotta raise money, fine — but you’re telling a rich Hamptons crowd that you think Donald Trump’s gonna come in to attack Mamdani. And in New York City, you think that’s gonna hurt Mamdiani?”
Scarborough went on to express surprise at what he believes is an apparent loss of political savvy on Cuomo’s part.
“He was never Mr. Wonderful, but he kind of knew politics,” Scarborough said. “He really did. So I don’t understand why all of the miscues.”
Lemire went on to state that “it would take something extraordinary” for Cuomo — or any of the other candidates, including current Mayor Eric Adams — to defeat Mamdani.
“You have the incumbent mayor — who of course is scandal-scarred, to say the least, and is perceived by most to be in the pockets of Donald Trump,” Lemire said. “And then you have Cuomo who had to resign and now has run what is simply a textbook terrible campaign.”
Lemire added, “Cuomo is just making one mistake after another.”
