Multiple Lawmakers Aboard Plane Involved in Collision on D.C. Runway: ‘Just Bumped Into Our Wing’

Multiple House lawmakers were aboard an American Airlines jet that was struck by another taxiing aircraft at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Thursday afternoon.
No injuries were reported and damage to the two aircraft if any was unclear as of 2 p.m. ET.
Ten weeks after 67 people died when a US military helicopter collided with an American Airlines flight over the airport, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY) reported his plane was nicked on a runway.
LaLota tagged Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) on X and commented, “Serving in Congress has come with some once in a lifetime experiences… like just now while stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully everyone is ok! (And @RepGraceMeng is handing out grapes!)”
Meng commented, “While waiting on the runway to fly out of DC today, another plane clipped the wing of the plane my colleagues and I were on. Fortunately, everyone is okay & we’re heading back to New York soon. Thank you to all who reached out with your concerns!”
Other House members were also reportedly aboard the flight.
Rep. Josh Gottenheimer (D-NJ) wrote, “While waiting to take off on the runway at DCA just now, another plane struck our wing. Thankfully, everyone is safe. Just a reminder: Recent cuts to the FAA weaken our skies and public safety.”
Fox 5 DC reported:
Two American Airlines planes clipped wings at Reagan Airport, according to the FAA. One flight was bound for JFK International Airport and the other was headed to Charleston International Airport.
“While waiting to take off on the runway at DCA just now, another plane struck our wing. Thankfully, everyone is safe,” posted New Jersey Representative Josh Gottheimer Tuesday afternoon.
