‘Not Too Late’: Former DNC Vice Chair Urges ‘Huge Push’ For Biden to Step Aside For Open Convention

Former Democratic National Committee vice chair Raymond T. Rybak called for a “huge push” from the public to pressure the Democratic Party into changing candidates, claiming it’s “absolutely not too late” to replace President Joe Biden after his “disastrous debate” performance.

In a social media post to Facebook on Sunday night, the former Mayor of Minneapolis opened: “[Michigan Governor] Gretchen Whitmer would mop the floor with Donald Trump in a debate about abortion rights. [Vice President] Kamala Harris would eviscerate him for killing immigration reform.”

Acknowledging that Biden deserved praise for what he’d achieved, he added: “The American people have spoken clearly that they don’t want a choice between Trump and Biden.”

In his post, Rybak proposed holding candidate forums and a straw poll to select a new nominee, believing this would create “must-see TV” and energize the Democratic base.

“Having been a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee I can say it is unlikely this would happen without a huge push from the public — you and me — right now,” he continued.

Rybak urged the public to push elected officials to take action criticizing Democrats who’ve been “shockingly silent” out of fear of political backlash: “They fear political retribution but they should really fear that if we lose this election because they didn’t have the guts to do what they know needs to be done, holy hell and history will come down on them like an anvil.”
