‘Oh No, We Don’t Like Black People!’ Elie Mystal Torches Companies Backing Off DEI For Trump
Elie Mystal torched companies backing away from Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies, telling SiriusXM radio host Dean Obeidallah that President Donald Trump “breathes on them” and they’re like “Oh no! We don’t like Black people!”
Some Juneteenth celebrations had to be scaled back this year over lost sponsorships in what is widely seen as a reaction to Trump’s anti-DEI push.
On Friday’s edition of The Dean Obeidallah Show, Mystal ripped the companies, but said he wasn’t surprised to see “White people act like White people”:
DEAN OBEIDALLAH: I mean, you really saw like in Denver, example, more than a dozen companies backed out of supporting Juneteenth Music Festival. So instead of being two day festival, it’s a one day festival.
How does, what is your reaction to what’s going on here?
ELIE MYSTAL: Hey look, the corporations were never actually fans of equality, right? They were never fans of inclusion. And even in real time, while everybody was celebrating Juneteenth and look, I’m happy that the thing got to be a national holiday.
But when you look at the corporate support for things like national holidays for these, I think, placations of the Black community, what I always would point out is that, You know they ain’t changing? Their board of directors, right?
Like, you note that, yeah, they’ll throw in some money behind, you know, Juneteenth Music Fest, right, but the board is still all White. Until corporations start using start believing in inclusion in management, in the C suites, it’s all BS.
It’s all it’s all BS and they knew it and they knew it in real time. Biden knew it in real-time. Like these were these were bones that they threw to the community that got Biden elected, but they were never really into it. They were never really into inclusion.
And we see that as soon as Trump breathes on them they’re like, “Oh no we don’t like Black people, what are you talking about?”
It’s pretty obvious–. To say disappointing, it’s almost disappointing is too strong of a word. It’s obvious, it’s expected at this point. I’m not disappointed, you know, Dean, I don’t get disappointed when White people act like White people.
