Pentagon Actively Planning a Military Deployment to Chicago, Following Trump’s DC Crackdown: Report

A new report reveals the Pentagon has been actively planning a military deployment to Chicago — on the heels of President Donald Trump’s crackdown in Washington, DC.

According to the Washington Post, the Pentagon is considering “mobilizing at least a few thousand members of the National Guard as soon as September.” The Pentagon has also considered using active-duty troops, but the Post reports that option is considered “less likely” for now.

The Chicago mission, according to the Post, would likely resemble the operation in Los Angeles in June — where Trump deployed 4,000 members of the National Guard and 700 active-duty Marines amid protests over ICE raids.

Speaking on Friday in the Oval Office, the president hinted that a Chicago crackdown was in the works.

“Chicago’s a mess,” Trump said. You have an incompetent mayor. Grossly incompetent. And we’ll straighten that one out probably next. That’ll be our next one after this. And it won’t even be tough.”

In a statement, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said he has “grave concerns” about Trump sending the National Guard to his city.

“The problem with the President’s approach is that it is uncoordinated, uncalled for, and unsound,” Johnson said. “Unlawfully deploying the National Guard to Chicago has the potential to inflame tensions between residents and law enforcement when we know that trust between police and residents is foundational to building safer communities. An unlawful deployment would be unsustainable and would threaten to undermine the historic progress we have made.”
