Piers Morgan raised the stakes of his bet with Candace Owens over whether Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, was actually born male on Thursday.
Owens has long pushed the conspiracy theory, and during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored last month, Morgan challenged her to put her money where her mouth is.
“You have produced zero evidence that she is a man. It’s been deeply offensive to her, her husband President Macron, to all of her family. You keep promoting it to millions of people who follow you, and I simply ask why. She’s not a man, she’s a woman,” observed Morgan at the time.
“I’ll bet you. Why don’t we have like a 100,000 pound bet that it establishes beyond any doubt — to a charity of your choice and mine — $100,000, we’ll make it dollars, right now that it is established beyond any doubt that she was born a woman. Do you accept that bet?” asked Morgan later in the segment, referring to an upcoming libel trial from Brigitte Macron against someone promoting the same conspiracy theory as Owens.
Owens did not accept the bet based on the results of the trial, but said she would pay up if Morgan’s team could produce photos proving Macron is a natural-born woman.
On Thursday, the libel trial ended with a French appeals court deciding that the defendants in the libel case would not have to pay the damages to Macron and her brother that a lower court had imposed on them, but only because it found that they had made their mistaken claims in “good faith,” not because the claims were true.
That didn’t stop Owens from taking a victory lap, though.
“Piers Morgan owes me $150,000 and I am ready to collect. It was never defamation. It was a witch hunt,” declared Owens on X. “Legally speaking, the only proof Brigitte Macron is a woman is her word that she is. There is tons of proof however, that she lived as a man before ‘becoming Brigitte’.”
And Morgan fired back quickly.
“We only have your word for it that YOU’RE a woman…” argued the British commentator.
“As for your ludicrous, and very hurtful (to her and her family) claims about Brigitte Macron’s biology, today’s court ruling – as you know – is irrelevant,” he added. “So let’s make it $300k, if you can afford it.”
