Protesters Scuffle With Police, Counter-Protesters Outside D.C. Jail Where J6 Prisoners Held

Protesters against the pardons issued by President Donald Trump reportedly clashed with supporters of the January 6 defendants and scuffled with police outside a D.C. jail on Monday night after the news broke, and some prisoners were released.

CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan was among the crowd that was pressing toward the doors of the Central Detention Center in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night as the police pushed them back. He told Anderson Cooper that wasn’t sure what had caused the surge at that time.

Newsnation reporter Brian Entin was on the scene and indicated that families of the prisoners were waiting anxiously for those incarcerated to be released following the pardons.

However, as some protesters who opposed Trump and the pardons got involved, videos began to pop up on social media showing scuffles and chaotic scenes breaking out between the two groups, and with police.

And there appeared to be some confusion among the supporters and families on whether the Bureau of Prisons was deliberately resisting the pardons from Trump. But, to be clear, there is no reason to suspect any obstruction or even foot-dragging on the releases.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
