Putin Apologizes to Israel for Anti-Semitic Hitler Remarks in ‘a Very Unusual Climb Down’

Russian President Vladimir Putin apologized for remarks from his foreign minister claiming that Adolf Hitler had Jewish heritage, said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s office on Thursday. Fox News broke the news on-air on with senior foreign affairs correspondent Greg Palkot calling it “a small victory gained from Putin.”

“A very unusual climb down we just heard about from President Putin,” Palkot reported. “According to the Israeli government, he apologized for anti-Semitic comments made earlier this week about Ukraine, and about its President Zelensky, by Foreign Minister Lavrov.”

“A small victory gained today from Putin,” added Palkot.

Anchor John Robert followed up, noting, “And Putin continues to insist he’s going after Nazis in Ukraine. Does not seem to add up. Good to have you back on the ground there in Kyiv.”

Bennett’s office released a statement saying, “The prime minister accepted the apology of President Putin for comments by Lavrov and thanked him for clarifying the president’s view of the Jewish people and the memory of the Holocaust.”

Bennett also reportedly asked Putin to “examine humanitarian options” for evacuating the besieged city Mariupol. “The request came following Bennett’s conversation with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, yesterday,” Bennett’s office claimed.

Putin apologized for Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s outlandish claim on Sunday, in which he said, “I could be wrong, but Hitler also had Jewish blood. [That Zelensky is Jewish] means absolutely nothing.”

Wise Jewish people say that the most ardent anti-Semites are usually Jews,” said Lavrov trying to link Zelensky to Hitler in comments that sparked international outrage and a fiery condemnation from the Israeli prime minister.
