‘Rotten Newspaper! You Hear Me?!’ Trump Absolutely Loses It on a Wall Street Journal Reporter Who Asked About Putin Talks
President Donald Trump lashed out at a Wall Street Journal reporter who was asking about his talks with Russia’s Vladimir Putin on Sunday.
The tense exchange happened on board Air Force One — where the president held a brief gaggle with reporters. The footage (via CSPAN Networks) shows an unnamed reporter asking Trump a question that wasn’t picked up by the network’s microphone. But Trump clearly was put off by what the reporter was asking.
“Who you with?” Trump asked the reporter.
“Wall Street Journal,” the reporter replied.
“That’s right,” Trump said. “Boy, you people treat us so badly. Wall Street Journal has truly gone to hell…Rotten newspaper! You hear me, what I said?! It’s a rotten newspaper!”
The reporter followed up by asking, “Are there any updates on talks with Vladimir Putin?”
“I wouldn’t tell the Wall Street Journal because it’d be wasting my time,” Trump said. “There are talks, I don’t want to talk to the Wall Street Journal. Look, Wall Street Journal is China-oriented, and they’re really bad for this country.”
Trump’s complaints about the Journal likely stem from a series of op-eds recently published by the paper’s editorial board — which have relentlessly criticized Trump’s tariffs, and declared his presidency to be “in trouble.”
