‘This Is a Travesty’: The Left Melts Down Over ‘Talentless Hack’ Bari Weiss’s Rise to Top of CBS

After weeks of rumors, the news that Paramount Skydance is acquiring The Free Press, the Bari Weiss-led media start-up, and naming Weiss CBS News’ editor-in-chief broke on Thursday.
Weiss, a former New York Times journalist who left the Gray Lady in 2020 while decrying ideological bias there, began her career on the center-left, but has in recent years emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of American progressivism while maintaining a moderate political front herself.
Weiss’s ascension hit many on the left like a ton of bricks.
Jamelle Bouie, Weiss’s former colleague at the Times, deemed it “a heartwarming story of how being an unethical and talentless hack is no barrier to your success when you are willing to endlessly flatter the wretched views of rich dipshits.”
“In case it wasn’t clear, the anti-DEI crusade has never been about merit. Zero news experience. Never been a reporter. Elevated to Editor in Chief of CBS News, one of the most storied news institutions in the nation,” complained Nikole Hannah-Jones, the showrunner of the Times‘ controversial 1619 Project.
“Everyone at CBS News should quit in protest. This is a travesty,” cried Walker Bragman. “Bari Weiss is a misinformation-peddling right-wing operative. She’s totally unqualified for this job.”
“CBS will now be a megaphone for the country’s most vicious crusader against free speech, and the most relentless propagandist of far-right disinformation,” declared cartoonist Eli Valley.
“CBS News is naming Bari Weiss Editor in Chief, which will make CBS News useless. She is indisputably biased towards Israel. In fact, that’s why she was hired,” argued Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks.
“Anti-woke, anti-trans, pro-Israel Bari Weiss will soon lead one of the biggest media companies in the U.S.” wailed Malcolm Ferguson at The New Republic.
But wait, there’s more:
