Trump Absolutely Craters With Young Voters in New Poll — Whopping 63-Point Swing in Net Approval

President Donald Trump’s support among young voters has absolutely cratered in a new poll with a massive 63-point swing in net approval since the beginning of his second term.
The president won the 2024 election by a narrow but decisive margin, failing to capture a majority of the popular vote and besting then-Vice President Kamala Harris by a hair less than 1.5 percent in the raw vote.
One key to Trump’s victory was that he performed better than expected with many groups that voted for Harris in the majority, cutting her margins in the process.
While the president has taken to falsely claiming that he won the youth vote, Trump did increase his share of voters under age 30 in 2024, even as overall youth participation fell drastically.
But a new Economist/YouGov poll shows that Trump’s support among this group has fallen sharply since late February, weeks into his second term. From the pollster:
- Just 20% of adults under 30 approve of Trump’s job handling, while 75% disapprove
This 20% approval among adults under 30 is a 30-point drop from February, when 50% of 18- to 29-year-olds approved of Trump and 42% disapproved- Trump’s net job approval has declined in all age groups since the start of his term, but no other age group has registered as big a change as adults under 30
Trump went from a plus-eight net approval in February to a minus-55 net approval in October — a 63-point swing in the wrong direction.
The president’s overall approval sits at a net of -19 points, with 39 percent approval versus 58 percent disapproval. The pollster notes “This is the lowest net approval Trump has received in any Economist / YouGov Poll in Trump’s second term, and lower than all but one poll in his first term.”
That’s a 22-point swing from February, when Trump scored 48 percent approval versus 45 percent disapproval, for a net approval of +3.
