President Donald Trump vowed in a Truth Social post to “PAY OUT TROOPS” during the current government shutdown that he blamed on Democratic leadership.
“Chuck Schumer recently said, ‘Every day gets better’ during their Radical Left Shutdown. I DISAGREE!” Trump posted on Saturday. “If nothing is done, because of ‘Leader’ Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, our Brave Troops will miss the paychecks they are rightfully due on October 15th.”
Trump continued, “That is why I am using my authority, as Commander in Chief, to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th. We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS.”
“I will not allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown,” he wrote. “The Radical Left Democrats should OPEN THE GOVERNMENT, and then we can work together to address Healthcare, and many other things that they want to destroy.”
Trump began implementing mass layoffs of workers on “Democrat Programs” as punishment for the government shutdown, through the recommendation of Russell Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget.
Vought posted “The RIFs have begun,” on X on Friday, using the acronym for “reductions in force,” as the administration began laying off more than 4,000 workers with seven federal agencies.
The Democrats have refused to budge on a stalled continuing resolution unless Republicans agree to back off coming cuts to the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. Republicans are accusing the Democrats of wanting healthcare for undocumented migrants.
Schumer told Punchbowl News this week, “Every day gets better for us. It’s because we’ve thought about this long in advance, and we knew that health care would be the focal point on Sept. 30, and we prepared for it… Their whole theory was — threaten us, bamboozle us, and we would submit in a day or two.”
