Trump Cajoles Reporters to Photograph His Balcony ‘Evita’ Pose — Then Posts to Truth Social Like It Was Natural
President Donald Trump cajoled reporters to snap him doing an Evita-style balcony pose — then posted it to Truth Social with a caption that made it seem spontaneous.
Fans and critics alike seem to agree that Trump has a flair for showmanship, a trait that was on display this week when Trump visited the Kennedy Center after his recent takeover of the institution.
On Monday afternoon, New York Times photographer Doug Mills posted a photo of Trump striking a familiar-looking pose with the caption “.@POTUS gestures as he stands in the Presidential Box at the Kennedy Center.”

Trump fans instantly gushed over the photo and congratulated Mills, and Trump posted a screenshot of Mills’s tweet to Truth Social that included the caption.
But the photo in question wasn’t merely of Trump spontaneously “gesturing” — it was Trump setting up the balcony pose during his tour of the Kennedy Center auditorium.
After answering a few questions, Trump suggests the reporters take photos of the pose, and can even be heard calling Mills out by name to ask if the composition is satisfactory:
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: So, do you want a little picture like this?
REPORTER: Perfect.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Go ahead. Are you guys ready? Come on.
REPORTER: We’re good, sir.
REPORTER: Will you speak to us later too when we’re close enough– (INAUDIBLE).
AIDE: Thank you, press, right this way.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: How’s that, Doug?
PHOTOGRAPHER: Thank you, sir.
As several observers have noted, Trump wrote in his 2004 book Trump: Think Like a Billionaire: Everything You Need to Know About Success, Real Estate, and Life that “My favorite Broadway show is ‘Evita’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber, starring Patti LuPone. I saw it six times, mostly with Ivana.”
