President Donald Trump offered an unambiguous rebuke of his predecessor’s handling of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine followed by a cryptic sign-off on Thursday morning.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote “It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invaders country. It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offense. There is no chance of winning! It is like that with Ukraine and Russia. Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out?”

“Regardless,” he added. “This is a war that would have NEVER happened if I were President – ZERO CHANCE. Interesting times ahead!!! President DJT.”

Biden refused to let Ukraine use arms provided by the United States to launch strikes deep in Russian territory until after the 2024 election.

Trump has conducted high-level peace negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the last week, and said he hopes to arrange bilateral talks between the two before eventually coming in to help close the deal.

“I think President Putin will make peace. I think President Zelensky will make peace. We’ll see if they can get along,” declared Trump at the White House amidst meetings with Zelensky and other European leaders on Monday. ”

“I think Putin is tired of it. I think they’re all tired of it. But you never know,” he remarked on Fox & Friends the following day. We’re going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks. That I can tell you.”

Trump has long been criticized for his warm rhetoric about Putin, although he provided lethal aid to the Ukrainians during his first term and has expressed frustration with Putin’s refusal to lay down his arms in recent days.
