Trump Says U.S. ‘May’ or ‘May Not’ Join Israel’s Strikes Against Iran: ‘Nobody Knows What I’m Going To Do’

President Donald Trump refused to say on Wednesday whether the United States will be joining an escalating war between Israel and Iran, declaring, “Nobody knows what I’m going to do.”

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Wednesday, Trump was asked about the potential of using the United States military to target Iranian nuclear sites. The New York Times published a report this week suggesting Trump is “seriously considering” providing Israel support through fighter jets and by dropping bombs on an underground Iranian nuclear site.

“I may do it,” the president said. “I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do.”

The president joked about reporters “seriously” expecting him to answer questions on whether such a strike would take place.

“You don’t seriously think I’m going to answer that question? ‘Will you strike the Iranian nuclear component, and what time exactly, sir? Sir, if you strike it, would you please inform us so we can be there and watch?’ I mean, you don’t even know that I’m going to even do it,” he said.

Trump has hinted in recent days at the potential of the US getting more directly involved in the Iran-Israel conflict, a stance that has led some under his MAGA umbrella to rebel. Tucker Carlson, for instance, has been vocal in his disapproval, even getting into a fiery exchange with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) about the potential of joining another war.

The president previously referred to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as an “easy target” amidst the bombing between Iran and Israel.

“We know exactly where the so-called “Supreme Leader” is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he wrote on Truth Social, stirring up more concerns among critics pushing for diplomacy.

Trump also told reporters on Wednesday that Iranian officials have offered to come to the White House to negotiate, but it may be too late.

“I don’t know how much longer it’s gonna go on. They are totally defenseless. They have no air defense whatsoever. Totally captured. You know, we’ve totally captured the air,” he said.
